Three years from now, the University of Debrecen will host the European University Games in ten sports and thousands of athletes. At the press conference held after the meeting of the organising committee it was revealed that never before had a sport event of this scale been organised in Hungary.
Levente Tóth, final-year student of the Faculty of Music of the University of Debrecen has achieved an outstanding result at an international online percussion competition. He has won the 21st Century Talents Percussion Competition, based in Ottawa.
In the academic year 2021/2022 the number of foreign students studying at the UD may reach 7,500. Compared to last year’s figure, it represents a 10 percent increase, which can be explained in part by the ongoing popularity of UD among applicants of the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme.
Relying on grant sources, the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen helps engineering students reach their academic goals by designing practice-oriented digital learning content, offering language courses, and providing mentoring services to disadvantaged students.
“The state has not released the hands of the universities, and in fact it provides more resources than ever before,” emphasized László Palkovics, Minister of Innovation and Technology, at the opening ceremony of the UD in the Nagyerdei Stadium. This year again, the Faculty of Humanities of UD and the Debrecen BSC Roundtable will jointly launch career-mentoring business courses, which will be available in Hungarian, English and Dutch in the Autumn semester, and in French and German in the Spring semester.
The University of Debrecen appears among the best 1,000 higher education institutions of the world in the latest Times Higher Education rankings. Finishing 3rd among the 11 Hungarian universities, UD has achieved its highest score in the area of teaching (ranked 351 globally).
The leaders of the University of Debrecen met with the delegation of three higher education institutions in Uzbekistan to discuss the experiences of pharmaceutical and agricultural education in Debrecen and the establishment of a Hungarian-Uzbek joint degree programme in these fields.

Faculty of Music of the UD hosted Young Musicians’ Summer Academy for the twentieth time this year. There were as many as 170 participants from sixteen different countries at the traditional music course event, which was crowned with several concerts performed by Zoltán Kodály World Youth Orchestra.
UD normally offers eight BA/BSc programs of seven of its faculties in this framework, and the application forms for these can be submitted by the students in August and September at the institutions located abroad.
Using a recent innovation discovered by chemists at the University of Debrecen, it is possible to remove toxic aqueous mercury pollution from the environment without endangering wildlife or other living organisms. The publication on special aerogels appeared in Chemosphere.
