The academic year-opening stadium show of the University of Debrecen, the 10th yoUDay, was held on Wednesday at Nagyerdei Stadium in a fantastic festive atmosphere. The jubilee event set an attendance record, with nearly 22,000 people partying in the venue alongside some of Hungary’s most popular star performers. Apart from Charlie, artists such as Beton.Hofi, BSW, Parno Graszt, and Bogi Nagy also participated in a gig on the arena's enormous stage.
With its contemporary and appealing design, this refurbished restaurant welcomes students and university staff in the basement of the Theoretical Building, situated within the Clinical Center complex. MAED Bistro serves customers a revamped bill of fare, featuring exquisite dishes, while also offering them a new community space to enjoy.
More than 12,000 freshers are beginning their studies at the University of Debrecen as of this September. At the ceremonial senate meeting of the university on Sunday for marking the start of the new academic year, Minister for Education and Children’s Affairs Judit Lannert underlined that the future of Hungary is inseparable from the University of Debrecen, which serves as a model for other institutions of higher education in our country in so many respects. This year’s ceremony was also about honoring outstanding contributions to the reputation of our university. It was for the first time that titles of rector emeritus and decanus emeritus were conferred upon former leaders who have played a decisive part in the history of the institution.
Zoltán Bács, Rector of the University of Debrecen, and Endre Harsányi, Vice Rector for Sectoral Development, held talks with senior officials of the State of Nebraska, including Secretary of State Robert Barnett Evnen, Deputy Secretary of State Cindi Allen, and the State Secretary for Food Economy, Distribution and Education of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Economy in Hungary, László Búza. The focus of the agenda of their meeting was on further expanding our university's international network of relations and exploring new educational, research and innovation collaboration opportunities in the United States.

The performers are already rehearsing for the stadium show, which promises to be spectacular and impressive once again this year, tickets are selling out and the construction of the monumental stage in Nagyerdei Stadium is to begin next week. At a ceremony held on Saturday, July 4, in the venue called Aula of its Main Building, the University of Debrecen inaugurated 104 new doctors. Titles for habilitated doctorate and Professor Emeritus status, as well as Excellence Ph.D. Scholarships of the Count István Tisza Foundation for the University of Debrecen were also awarded at the event.
Nicolas Rubio, the agricultural counselor of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), gave a talk on the processes of the global agricultural market, the development of economic relations between the European Union and the United States, and the most important trends in EU-US agricultural trade at the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and Environmental Management of the University of Debrecen. His visit offered yet another opportunity to strengthen educational, research and innovation relations between the University of Debrecen and its partners in the United States.
During the spring semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, more than 550 students at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Debrecen fulfilled the requirements for graduation and received their diplomas on Friday in the Ceremonial Courtyard of the university’s Main Building. At the ceremonial faculty meeting, Dean Veronika Fenyves announced that the faculty’s program portfolio will be expanded with a new master’s degree program.
With almost 6,500 visitors, this year’s International Food Day saw record-breaking attendance. The exceptionally well-received event was organized by the Student Union of the University of Debrecen and the International Student Union (ISU) which represents the foreign students at the university. This year, as many as 36 nations’ specialties were available for attendees to taste at the northern event area of the Nagyerdei Stadium, along with the performances of young musical talents and bands of the international student community who entertained the guests until dawn.
