The KAIZEN™ Award was presented for the first time in Hungary at the Faculty of Technology of the University of Debrecen (DE MK). The award was given to companies that operate according to the Japanese philosophy of continuous improvement. This useful approach is also taught as a subject at the Faculty of Technology's Department of Management and Entrepreneurship.

The team of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen won 3rd place in the Best Presentation category at a conference held in Singapore. The main aim of the International Conference on E-Learning in Industrial Electronics is to present the connection between modern education and e-learning methods.
The new building of National Manufacturing, Research and Education Center of the Faculty of Pharmacy, recently inaugurated in Vezér Street Industrial Park of the University of Debrecen, is now available for both education and pharmaceutical research and manufacturing. The three-floor, almost 7,000 square-meter, complex was built in one year at the cost of roughly HUF 12 billion.
A team of students from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen was among the first three at the 29th National István Ajtonyi Control Engineering Programming Competition. There were teams from Hungarian, Romanian and Serbian technical institutions of higher education taking part in the competition held in Serbia.

Mechanical Engineering students at Debrecen University’s Faculty of Engineering have completed their studies in Oradea, Romania, as the first students of the University’s outsourced education in Hungarian at Partium Christian University. The joint aim of the two institutions is to obtain Romanian accreditation for this type of education as soon as possible.

The Debrecen University Press, which belongs to the UD University and National Library, has made its debut on the website of the Hungarian Electronic Reference Services (MeRSZ), which is the smart library of the Akadémiai Press, with 5 volumes. The aim of the project is to make scientific publications more visible and easier to access for students, teachers and researchers.
The University and National Library of the University of Debrecen (DEENK) also supports the reform of research evaluation in the transformation of open science, i.e. the system and value system of research. In recognition of her revolutionary achievements in the treatment of neonatal diabetes, Professor Dame Frances Mary Ashcroft of the Institutes of Physiology at the University of Oxford was awarded the "Debrecen Prize for Molecular Medicine" in 2020. Due to the Covid pandemic, the British professor conducting research into the physiology of ion channels was only able to accept the award of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Debrecen this year from László Csernoch, vice rector for scientific affairs and László Mátyus, dean of UD.
The University of Debrecen (UD) is intent on putting the study of biodiversity, climate change, sustainable development and water management on a new footing. As it was announced at a press conference on the subject, the unit called Biodiversity, Water Management and Climate Change Coordination Research Centre, which was established last year, would play a key strategic part in this process.
The University of Debrecen has announced its next round of applications in the Erasmus programme for the academic year 2023/2024. More than 250 students will have a chance to complete a part-time study abroad or internship program in Europe or in a distant part of the world. The deadline for the applications is 15 March.
“Komondor”, a supercomputer with the highest computing capacity in Hungary, has been installed at the Kassai Street campus of UD. It will support the work of UD teachers and researchers. The computer of the Governmental Agency for IT Development will increase the currently available HPC capacity by ten times.
The Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Debrecen offers up-to-date knowledge, practice-oriented education and a new master’s course to students, who can study in Debrecen, Nyíregyháza and Szolnok.
The Faculty of Informatics of UD provides students with up-to-date knowledge in data science and artificial intelligence, opportunities to obtain industry certificates, and a good chance to land a job after graduation. The applicants can choose from three bachelor, five master and an undivided programmes. This year the Faculty launches a master’s course in data science.
Major events, a record number of articles, and a tragic loss – The Press Centre of the University of Debrecen has closed a demanding but successful year. The Centre that has been named after the late Ildiko M. Tóth who led the Centre and died last year released about a thousand university articles, and contributed to over 30,000 media appearances.
The UniPass card management system of UD is unique in Hungary. It has been part of the everyday life of university citizens for nearly ten years. Card holders can use the services of over 50 partners, and the number of card-accepting places is increasing.
Vitesco is establishing an off-site department at the University of Debrecen. Based on the agreement signed on Thursday, the German company that manufactures and develops drive chains will be involved in the new electrical engineering master’s course of the Faculty of Engineering and in the mechatronics engineering programme.
