The University of Debrecen was one of the professional partners of the two-day AI Transformation Conference organized by Corvinus University of Budapest and the Shenzhen Research Institute of the University of Hong Kong, China, where leading scientists from around the world discussed scientific opportunities offered by artificial intelligence.

Three faculties, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Informatics and the Faculty of Humanities, of the University of Debrecen were represented at a conference called CogInfoCom (Cognitive infocommunications) at Chuo University, Japan, which was attended by academics from universities located on several continents. This event primarily focused on the potential of merging human and digital environments, artificial intelligence, info-communication and cognitive skills.

Students of the University of Debrecen's Faculty of Informatics (IK) who participated in courses sponsored by Microsoft and NVIDIA have gained state-of-the-art IT knowledge and competitive certification. Students from the Faculty of Informatics at the University of Debrecen and the Vishwakarma Institute of Computer Science in India attended the online courses, with more than 4,000 students participating in the joint work, which mainly focused on data science, artificial intelligence and deep learning.

The University of Debrecen students and researchers have provided the highest number of Fulbright scholars in Hungary - this announcement was made at the information session of the International Office of the University of Debrecen, presenting this year's applications of the world's most prestigious scholarship programme. Every year, Fulbright offers 25 Hungarian students, researchers and teachers the opportunity to work as academic researchers and gain professional experience in the United States of America.

The University of Debrecen and the BMW Group Gyár Debrecen have entered into a collaboration that covers professional training and research and development. The agreement was signed on Tuesday by Rector Zoltán Szilvássy and President and CEO Hans-Peter Kemser.

Continuing the already existing joint training programs, introducing student and teacher exchanges, offering double degree programs and initiating curriculum development are just a sample of the issues discussed at the meeting last Friday when a delegation from Beijing University of International Studies (BISU) was received by the representatives of the Rector’s Office of the University of Debrecen and the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Humanities.

“Komondor”, a supercomputer with the highest computing capacity in Hungary, has been installed at the Kassai Street campus of UD. It will support the work of UD teachers and researchers. The computer of the Governmental Agency for IT Development will increase the currently available HPC capacity by ten times.

The Faculty of Informatics of UD provides students with up-to-date knowledge in data science and artificial intelligence, opportunities to obtain industry certificates, and a good chance to land a job after graduation. The applicants can choose from three bachelor, five master and an undivided programmes. This year the Faculty launches a master’s course in data science.

As a recognized member of Microsoft’s Learn for Educators Program, the Faculty of Informatics (FI) of the University of Debrecen also participated in the professional summit held in Warsaw, Poland, and hosted by the global US-based company, where FI presented its scientific and educational achievements with the support of Microsoft as one of the outstanding partners of this international corporation.

The software is already being installed on the 5 petaflops supercomputer called Komondor at the Supercomputer Center on the Kassai út Campus of the University of Debrecen. The new machine of the Governmental Information-Technology Development Agency (KIFÜ) will increase the current HPC capacity available domestically tenfold.

The University of Debrecen and the company Continental have signed an agreement on joint educational, scientific and research development activities in the field of artificial intelligence-based software development projects and related technologies. The contract was drafted and signed soon after the multinational company had announced the establishment of a research and development center in Debrecen.

This weekend the summer series of graduation ceremonies will begin at the University of Debrecen. In the weeks to come, about 4,000 graduates will receive their degrees. The first ceremonies will be held on 17 June, Friday, at 10 am and at 13 am, when students of the Faculty of Economics and Business will graduate at the Cour d’Honneur of the Main Building.

On Saturday, a ceremony was held in the Hall of the Main Building of the University of Debrecen, where research degrees and honorary titles were awarded. At the event 96 new doctors representing 5 areas of science received their degrees, and the Habilitation, Professor Emeritus, Civis honoris causa and Doctor honoris causa titles were also awarded.

A new solution jointly developed by the University of Debrecen, Delta Services and Sightspot Network will make the diagnosis of cervical cancer faster and more reliable, allowing doctors to start treatment at an early stage. The new solution is an image-based diagnostic system, which is able to identify cancer cells based on deep learning technology.

A special research and education oriented organizational unit has been established by NI Hungary at the Faculty of Informatics of the University of Debrecen in order to assist students enrolled in Computer Science, Business Informatics and Computer Science Engineering BSc and MSc programs. In addition, the US-based company has also supported the installment of a new computer laboratory through a donation worth more than 4 million HUF.

The Faculty of Informatics of the University of Debrecen has established a special research and education oriented organizational unit with the Hungarian subsidiary of one of the fastest-growing software engineering companies in the world, EPAM Systems Inc. The objective of the relevant agreement is to facilitate the integration of international market expertise and up-to-date technological knowledge into the channels of education.

The new software in the equipment pool of the Faculty of Informatics at the University of Debrecen is routinely used in research and development related to autonomous vehicles and artificial intelligence. The special piece of equipment inaugurated on Thursday will assist the vehicle research activities of the institution, which are of strategic significance.

The Faculty of Informatics of the University of Debrecen offers courses to prepare students for Microsoft’s cloud-based artificial intelligence and Azure international industry certification exams. The courses, which are available both in English and in Hungarian, will help students to successfully complete these competitive international exams.

Students of the UD, who took part in the nuclear energy competition, known as Hackatom organised by Rosatom Central-Europe, Paks Nuclear Power Plant Ltd. along with Paks II. Ltd, this spring, had the chance to get acquainted with Unit 4 of Paks Nuclear Power Plant on the spot.

Due to the high number of graduating students and the restrictions introduced during the pandemic situation, the UD organized its closing ceremony at the Nagyerdei Stadium, like last year. On Saturday, students of four faculties celebrated the end of their university studies.
