The University of Debrecen has elevated its level of cooperation with one of the largest global companies specializing in biotechnology to a higher notch in order to provide more efficient services in patient care. The agreement, which was signed on Wednesday, aims, among other things, at supporting the early detection of diseases, the strengthening of appropriate diagnostic pathways and improving patient management in areas that are regarded widespread diseases in Hungary, such as cancer, cardiovascular and chronic respiratory diseases.

The multi-year professional cooperation between the University of Debrecen and one of the leading healthcare companies in the world, GE HealthCare, continues to increase in intensity. A framework agreement, which was signed on Friday, will take this successful joint work to the next level, where a focus on radiochemical developments as well as state-of-the-art AI-supported radiation planning processes and innovations could make patient care at our Clinical Center safer and more efficient.
Experts from the University of Debrecen have participated in an international symposium reporting on the results of microbiome-related research conducted at our institution, while focusing primarily on its clinical and oncological implications. Besides presenting the recent relevant research results and findings, the meeting on Thursday also provided an opportunity to initiate and establish new research collaborations that would lay the foundation and provide a roadmap for new drug development programs in the future.

It was the most recent solutions for a minimally invasive treatment of complete coronary artery occlusion that were presented at this Romanian-Hungarian professional forum as well as during the training course preceding it.
Thoracic Surgery Department (TSD) of the Surgical Clinic of the University of Debrecen has once again received accreditation from the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS), confirming that this institution provides European-level care to patients. TSD first earned this prestigious international certification back in 2012, becoming the first such institution in Eastern Europe to do so. Since then, the certificate has had to be reearned every five years based on strict criteria.
Dr. Ildikó Horváth, Director of the Pulmonology Clinic and Professor of the University of Debrecen, will be serving for the next three years as Secretary General of the European Respiratory Society (ERS). The new leader was elected last year and she was formally inducted at the most recent conference of this European organization. She will be the first Hungarian professional to hold the high position of Secretary General.
A delegation from the northeastern Chinese city of Jiamusi was received by the management of the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen on Tuesday. In addition to patient care, the members of the delegation were mainly informed about the activities and training of health visitors. During the visit, the future cooperation opportunities between the universities of the two cities were also discussed.
Topics such as the harmonization of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with medical research, the role of artificial intelligence and network pharmacology, as well as opportunities in next-generation pharmaceuticals and theranostics, were discussed at the Doctor Honoris Causa Symposium on Thursday. At the scientific session, Professor Shao Li– member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and Director of the Interdisciplinary Research Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Tsinghua University – presented his research findings. He received an honorary doctorate from the University of Debrecen on Friday.
Several PhD students and young specialists from the University of Debrecen presented their research findings at the event called European Workshop for Rheumatology Research (EWRR) held in Budapest, Hungary, where they discussed the latest research findings in the fields of cellular immunology, pain, tissue damage, immune tolerance, autoinflammation and autoimmunity.
The Department of Surgery of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre organized a symposium entitled Robotic Surgery for Everyone (Robotsebészet mindenkinek) on the experiences gained since the launch of the Robotic Surgery Centre last April. The event, held at the Headquarters of the Debrecen Regional Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (DAB), was dedicated to a discussion of the place, role and results of robot-assisted surgery in clinical practice in Debrecen, including an overview of the particularities of each medical specialty.
