Chinese delegation at the Clinical Center: focus on the work of health visitors

A delegation from the northeastern Chinese city of Jiamusi was received by the management of the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen on Tuesday. In addition to patient care, the members of the delegation were mainly informed about the activities and training of health visitors. During the visit, the future cooperation opportunities between the universities of the two cities were also discussed.

“The Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen is the largest inpatient care institution in Hungary. Its three campuses, including Nagyerdei Campus, Gyula Kenézy Campus and Count István Tisza Campus, process more than four million patients a year. Inpatient care covers sixty specialties, while outpatient care covers more than one hundred specialties,” said Zoltán Szabó, Vice-Rector of the University of Debrecen and President of the Clinical Center, during the visit of the delegation from the Chinese city of Jiamusi.

Zoltán Szabó added: in addition to the patient care of the region, the Clinical Center also provides a significant part of basic care activities, including the professional supervision of the regional public health service.

Listing the developments of the past years, he highlighted the establishment of the Emergency Clinic, the Children's Emergency Centre and the construction of the Hybrid Operating Theater. Thanks to the improvements made in recent years, the departments within the Clinical Center have received a number of national and international awards and recognitions.

The President of the Clinical Center underlined that, in addition to patient care, the specialists at the CC also play an important part in the educational and research activities of the University of Debrecen.

Our Clinical Center is also involved in a number of international collaborations for study and clinical practice purposes, contributing to the development of high-quality patient care at the forefront of European standards.

Professor Szabó also presented to the members of the delegation what the strategy of the Clinical Center for improving communication is like. He pointed out that, in recent years, communication in English and German has been significantly improved in addition to Hungarian, thus helping to inform patients, students and delegations involved in international relations.

Following the presentation by Professor Zoltán Szabó, Marianna Móré, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, introduced the educational offerings of her faculty, and then Renáta Jávorné Erdei, Deputy Dean of Education, outlined the current issues in the focus of training health visitors. They noted that, since 1993, as many as 1,229 health visitors have graduated from the faculty's bachelor's degree program, while 18 have graduated from the master's program since 2021.

Csaba Papp, Director of the Institute of Primary Care and Health Promotion, and Edit Kovács, Head of the County's Health Visitor Service, gave a detailed report on the work of the health visitors at the regional, school and hospital levels. At present, there are more than 250 health visitors currently working in the Clinical Center.

The visit of this Chinese delegation could be an initial step taken in building links between the health care system of the city of Jiamusi and the specialized fields of the University of Debrecen’s Clinical Center, especially primary care and the activities of health visitors.
