Students from the Faculty of General Medicine of the University of Debrecen have won second place in the International Medical Students' Championship (MedCup). The students also won two special prizes at the competition held in Brussels on the first and second of March.

The opening event of CASA 15, an international design competition for students of architecture, was held this year at the Faculty of Technology of the University of Debrecen. The participants, around two hundred second-year students of architecture from three different countries, were instructed to design a residential building with community functions located on a specific site in Debrecen. The host institution, the Department of Architecture of the University of Debrecen, was represented by as many as sixty students partaking in the competition.

The Károly Ihrig Doctoral School of Management and Business of the University of Debrecen has held an international conference of PhD students, sponsored by the university’s Faculty of Economics and Hungary’s Central Bank. Hungarian and foreign students delivered presentations in ten sessions. Gergely Baksay, Managing Director responsible for economic and budget analysis of the Central Bank gave a plenary presentation. The programme included a round table discussion too.

More names were announced on Friday by the organisers of the Campus Festival. Nine international performers and seventy local acts have been added to this year's line-up, while the list of Hungarian favourites now includes a total of 140 names, according to a recent statement on the festival's programme.

A new textbook on Preventive Medicine and Public Health for medical students and students of other health sciences has been produced with the collaboration of experts from the University of Debrecen. It is the first standard textbook on preventive medicine and public health to be used in the four national medical schools for many years.

Ninety-three students from twenty-one countries were welcomed by the International Office of the University of Debrecen and the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Student Government of the university on Wednesday. During the traditional Welcome Dinner, foreign students arriving for the spring semester were given a taste of Hungarian folklore by folk dancersers, the Szeredás ensemble, ending the programme with a joint dance.

Greta Grof-Tisza is studying at the University of Debrecen, founded with the support of her great-great grandfather. Although the young student was ware that she was a descendant of the former Prime Minister, Count István Tisza, she only experienced the significance of his legacy once she arrive don the premsises of the university. The late Prime Minister's descendant was received by Rector Zoltán Szilvássy and Chancellor Zoltán Bács in the Main Building.

The European University Games (EUG), jointly organised this summer by the University of Debrecen and the University of Miskolc, will be a highlight at the largest Hungarian education exhibition. It was announced at the trade fair, which opened on Thursday at Hungexpo, that the organisers are now inviting applications for volunteer helpers for the July multi-sport event.

Students of the University of Debrecen's Faculty of Pharmacy had to deal with complex communication situations between pharmacist and patient in an imaginary pharmacy at the Pharmacy Care Competition held on Thursday.

Ádám Lengyel, a Finance and Accounting student at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Debrecen won the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) Workspace Portfolio Management competition. Over two hundred future economists from 16 countries participated in the prestigious competition.

H.E. Gong Tao, the new ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Budapest, has discussed new opportunities for cooperation between the University of Debrecen and Chinese companies as well as institutions of higher education with Rector Zoltán Szilvássy. During the visit of his delegation, the Chinese diplomat and his staff also met some Chinese international students enrolled at our university.

Mr. Jeff Liu, a former CEO of the overseas division of Semcorp Group, was the guest invited to a panel discussion hosted by of the Institute of Engineering and Business Innovation of the University of Debrecen on Tuesday. Mr. Liu, whose story has also been adapted and screened by Netflix, talked about the initial difficulties in his career, his professional experiences, cross-cultural collaborations and future technological developments such as the rise of artificial intelligence and renewable energy sources.

After a Memorandum of Understanding between Sunway University (SU), Malaysia and the University of Debrecen (UD) was signed a year ago, several educational and research projects have started between the Centre for English Language Studies, SU (CELS) and our Faculty of Humanities/Institute of English and American Studies (UD), also accompanied by staff exchange facilitated by an Erasmus+ contract.

On Tuesday evening, students and employees of the University of Debrecen had a chance to view a portrait film in the university theatre hall about the career of the legendary youth coach of Real Madrid, József Tóth-Zele. The premiere, which was combined with a Q&A session with the audience, was also attended by the 88-year-old title character and the producer of the film, Ambassador Barnabás Kovács.

The repaired and renovated DASE running track has been inaugurated on Böszörményi úti campus of the University of Debrecen. The upgraded athletics track will be the university's sports education and sports science training venue. The track will be used primarily by students of the Institute for Sports Science Coordination, the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Agriculture, Food Science and Environmental Management, but it will also be available to the entire university community as well as the citizens of our city.

Spectacular satellite and thermal imagery made Friday's lecture on volcanoes in Italy a special treat, given by volcanologist Sonia Calvari, Research Director of Etna Observatory of the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Catania), to students of the University of Debrecen and secondary school students from Debrecen who Italian as a foreign language.

Literary translation was in the focus of the annual conference of Hungarian Nederlandists named Studiedag van neerlandici in Hongarije – Vertalen, which was hosted this year by the Department of Dutch Studies of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen.

From September, more than 7,300 students are expected to study in the University of Debrecen's English-language courses, the largest student community in Central and Eastern Europe. Katinka Battai Sugár, a member of the Hungarian women's fencing team, is now a two-time world champion after winning the gold medal at the World Fencing Championships in Milan on Sunday. The DEAC fencer, a student of the University of Debrecen's Faculty of Economics and Business Administration majoring in Recreation and Lifestyle, has taken a big step towards Olympic participation in Paris.

Twenty-two individual masterclasses led by thirty-two artists have been held in recent weeks at the University of Debrecen's Faculty of Music, at the XXII International Summer Academy for Young Musicians, with over one hundred and sixty students from fourteen countries. The event also marked the ninetieth birthday of Tamás Vásáry, pianist and conductor, who this year again took over the leadership of the Zoltán Kodály World Youth Orchestra.

The Debrecen University Press, which belongs to the UD University and National Library, has made its debut on the website of the Hungarian Electronic Reference Services (MeRSZ), which is the smart library of the Akadémiai Press, with 5 volumes. The aim of the project is to make scientific publications more visible and easier to access for students, teachers and researchers.

Over one hundred and sixty student musicians from all over the world, from nineteen countries, are coming to the xxii. for the international summer academy of young musicians. The world orchestra, formed at the event of the faculty of music of the University of Debrecen, will once again be led by Tamás Vásáry, who will also be welcomed at the meeting on the occasion of his 90th birthday.

The Faculty of Humanities (FoH) of the University of Debrecen (UD) said goodbye to its Chinese students graduating in Hungarian studies on Thursday at the end-of-the-academic-year ceremony held in the Main Building. The 15 Chinese graduates started their studies in Debrecen three years ago, thanks to an international educational cooperation.

The summer graduation ceremonies at the University of Debrecen will begin soon. More than four thousand graduates will receive their degrees at the ceremonies held between June 17 and July 8.
