With their donation of one million three hundred thousand forints, the foreign students contributed to the construction of a positive pressure room, a so-called clean room.
- This room will be used to treat children who are at a stage of treatment where they are particularly vulnerable to infection. This can be prevented, or significantly reduced with this room. There is a much lower chance of children going in there getting infections, resulting in a higher cure rate. The investment will cost 40-50 million forints. It was this more than one million forints that was missing from the total amount, so it can be said that the crown for the clean room is made up by the donation of the students," said István Szegedi, Associate Professor at the Department of Paediatric Haematology, DE Clinical Centre for Paediatrics.
The International Food Day, the largest and most popular event of the International Student Union (ISU), the organisation of foreign students of the University of Debrecen, was organised this May in the northern event area of the Nagyerdei Stadium, with thousands of visitors. One million three hundred thousand forints was donated to the Foundation for Children with Leukaemia.
- We managed to raise the amount donated from the proceeds of the food vouchers. This is the fifth time in the history of the International Food Day that we have supported the foundation and through them the cure of children with leukemia - said Dávid Melis, Vice President of the Student Self-Government of the University of Debrecen, responsible for foreign students.
- Attiláné Hetey, member of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Children with Leukaemia, and István Szegedi, Associate Professor of the Department of Paediatric Haematology at the DE Clinical Centre for Paediatrics, received the grant from the students on Friday.
