Organized by the Leading Learning Partner Association—a consortium comprising renowned international training centers—the Digital Skills Cup offered participants the opportunity to test their digital skills in four categories: user-level and expert-level artificial intelligence, IT Security (cybersecurity), and IT Developer (software development). The online finals were preceded by regional competitions, with the winners of those qualifying for the final, decisive round. The national competition was won by S M Sadman Sakib Sayor, a senior BSc student in Computer Science and Software Engineering at the Faculty of Informatics at the University of Debrecen, who thereby earned the right to compete in the international world finals.
The student, who is originally from Bangladesh, began his studies at the Faculty of Informatics at the University of Debrecen in 2023. During his studies, he successfully completed the faculty’s ITS Cybersecurity preparatory course and went on to earn the internationally recognized Certiport ITS Cybersecurity industry certification.
- I am proud to have represented Hungary and the university on the international stage. I consider the opportunity to earn industry certifications particularly important. Such opportunities are limited in Bangladesh, so I greatly appreciate that at the University of Debrecen I was able to earn internationally recognized certifications that simultaneously contribute to my professional development and serve as credible proof of my competencies. Both the course and the industry exam provided significant help in preparing for the competition- he said.
According to Ákos Szabó, the developer of the preparatory course, the student’s success clearly demonstrates the practical value of the program and proves that the knowledge gained can be successfully applied not only in certification exams but also in an international competitive environment. He added that the faculty’s goal is to provide students with up-to-date knowledge that meets market expectations and is internationally recognized.
Regarding Sadman’s international success, András Hajdu, Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology, explained that DEIK has been offering training and examinations related to international industry certifications for three years, offering preparatory courses for both students and external applicants, and, as a Certiport partner, operates an exam center, enabling university students to take internationally recognized professional exams on campus
- It was a key priority for us to incorporate international educational trends, topics, and assessment and reporting methods into the Faculty of Information Technology, so that our students can encounter expectations and evaluation systems that are influential on an international level, in addition to the standard university curriculum. A global perspective enhances the agility and mobility of domestic students and also contributes to ensuring that research and development opportunities based on innovation, as well as market launch opportunities, are even more strongly represented in the faculty’s professional ecosystem. Sadman’s world championship title is an excellent example of how talent, hard work, state-of-the-art professional training, and a learning environment aligned with international standards can together lead to outstanding results—emphasized the faculty leader.
Organized by the Leading Learning Partner Association and coordinated by Microsoft and Amazon Web Services, the competition attracted more than 4,300 participants from 64 countries, 959 of whom competed in the IT Security category.
