The University of Debrecen has moved up almost 100 places in what is called QS international ranking. UD was ranked 574th among the more than fifty-five hundred institutions surveyed by the renowned UK ranking agency Quacquarelli Symonds.

The Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen can provide the highest level of emergency and accident care for children in its new Pediatric Emergency Center. The building, equipped with the most modern devices and instruments, was constructed out of more than three and a half billion HUF. The new center was officially inaugurated on Monday.

The University of Debrecen has held its traditional spring doctoral and honorary doctoral inauguration ceremony. At this event on Friday, as many as 130 new doctoral candidates in five different disciplines received their degrees, while titles of habilitated doctor, professor emeritus and emeritus advisor were also conferred. Helmut Flachenecker, Professor at the University of Würzburg in Germany, was awarded an honorary doctoral degree, while ecologist Csaba Aradi received a Pro Universitate award.

The new building of National Manufacturing, Research and Education Center of the Faculty of Pharmacy, recently inaugurated in Vezér Street Industrial Park of the University of Debrecen, is now available for both education and pharmaceutical research and manufacturing. The three-floor, almost 7,000 square-meter, complex was built in one year at the cost of roughly HUF 12 billion.

The conference Sustainable Economy – Sustainable Society (Fenntartható gazdaság – fenntartható társadalom), jointly organized and hosted by the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen and the Hungarian National Bank, was kicked off with a series of plenary lectures delivered by distinguished foreign speakers and was continued with academic presentations in Hungarian and English by almost 200 participants at the Böszörményi úti campus of UD. This academic forum also celebrated the 30th anniversary of the start of the higher education program in economics and business in Debrecen.

The Da Vinci robot-assisted surgical system has arrived at the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre. The 21st-century, state-of-the-art technology is used primarily in general surgery, as well as surgical procedures in urology, gynaecology and otolaryngology. Thanks to the precise and safe surgical techniques made possible by it, the risk of complications is reduced and recovery times are shortened. The investment of more than one billion Hungarian forints in robotic surgery was officially introduced at the institution on Tuesday.

The graduating students of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food Science and Environmental Management and the Faculty of Economics of the University of Debrecen marched through the city on carriages and carriages on Friday, in keeping with their almost half-century-old tradition, to say goodbye to the city and the institution. On Monday, a hybrid operating theatre opened at the Department of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery of the University of Debrecen, where mainly special cardiac catheter interventions are performed, but it is also suitable for open heart surgery. The state-of-the-art operating theatre was built with a budget of around one billion forints.

Samarkand State Architecture and Construction University will initiate mobility of teachers, researchers and students, as well as joint training and research projects with the University of Debrecen, according to an agreement signed on Thursday by the rectors of the two institutions. The University of Debrecen has signed a cooperation agreement with Eve Power Hungary Kft. concerning human resources training, a student scholarship programme, joint research and development activities and the establishment of a battery research institute. Eve Power, the world's ninth largest battery manufacturer, is building its first European plant in Debrecen.

According to Mr. Hu Tao, the CEO of SEMCORP Hungary Kft., the Hungarian branch of the global leader in the production of lithium-ion battery separator films is seeking long-term cooperation opportunities with the University of Debrecen. Mr. Tao made this announcement before signing an agreement on joint research, development and education with the leaders of our institution.

German Ambassador to Hungary Julia Gross paid her first visit to the University of Debrecen on Wednesday. First, she met with university leaders, then with faculty members and students from the Institute of German Studies at the Faculty of Humanities.

The Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Hungary visited the University of Debrecen on Tuesday to discuss the University's training portfolio and its extensive domestic and international network of contacts. Malallah Albalushi also inquired about the possibility of increasing the number of Omani students during his meeting with Rector Zoltán Szilvássy.

Greta Grof-Tisza is studying at the University of Debrecen, founded with the support of her great-great grandfather. Although the young student was ware that she was a descendant of the former Prime Minister, Count István Tisza, she only experienced the significance of his legacy once she arrive don the premsises of the university. The late Prime Minister's descendant was received by Rector Zoltán Szilvássy and Chancellor Zoltán Bács in the Main Building.

The University of Debrecen has made a cooperation agreement with six Vietnamese universities in the fields of information technology, pharmacy, and medicine. The framework agreements were signed by Zoltán Szilvássy, Rector of Debrecen University, in the presence of Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, Minister of Defence, on Friday, at the National University of Public Service.

Rudolf Schuster, former President of the Slovak Republic, celebrates his 90th birthday on 4 January. The politician, who played a key role in deepening Slovak-Hungarian relations, was awarded the Civis Honoris Causa award, one of the most prestigious honours of the University of Debrecen in 2016.

H.E. Gong Tao, the new ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Budapest, has discussed new opportunities for cooperation between the University of Debrecen and Chinese companies as well as institutions of higher education with Rector Zoltán Szilvássy. During the visit of his delegation, the Chinese diplomat and his staff also met some Chinese international students enrolled at our university.

The University of Debrecen has held its autumn PhD graduation ceremony traditionally in the framework of the Celebration of Hungarian Science. At the ceremony, 111 candidates received their diplomas, and Habilitated Doctorate and Professor Emeritus titles as well as university awards were also conferred.

Beijing University of Agriculture and the University of Debrecen continue to broaden the basics of their cooperation. These two institutions have been working together in the field of biological plant protection and pest management for more than two decades, and their joint research and education activities will soon be extended to additional academic fields. The relevant agreement was signed on Thursday by the leaders of the two universities in Debrecen.

Aurelia Giacometto Skipwith, former director of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, visited the University of Debrecen to discuss agricultural research and training, as well as ways to increase the number of American students. He also gave a lecture to students of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food Science and Environmental Management.
