The event called WorldSkills is the international world championship for vocational skills, whose primary goal is to encourage young people to pursue vocational training, particularly in manual labor and modern technology-based professions.
At the 48th WorldSkills competition, which was held in Shanghai, the entire delegation from Hungary achieved outstanding results, securing one gold medal, three silver medals, and ten Medallions of Excellence in 25 skill categories.
The team from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Debrecen finished 6th overall in the industrial robotics (Robot Systems Integration) category. With this performance, the Kis-Vígh duo became the second-best team from Europe in the field. The jury recognized the efforts of the team from Debrecen with a Medallion of Excellence.
During the course of the competition, one of the team members was required to physically assemble and program the industrial robot, while the other member simultaneously implemented and documented the same processes in a digital simulation.
- In the fields of mechatronics and modern automation, the Hungarian national duo has frequently consisted of students from Debrecen, after their confident victories in the domestic qualifying competitions- said Géza Husi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Debrecen.
The rather intensive technical preparation process for WorldSkills was directed by Gyula Korsoveczky, an assistant lecturer at the Faculty’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics. Technical mentoring was provided by István László Biró, who is a WorldSkills expert and robot application engineer at FANUC Hungary Kft.
- I am really proud of the performance of the Hungarian competitors and I also wish to offer my heartfelt congratulations to István Bíró, who elevated the knowledge and training our boys acquired in-house to a world-class level. We would also like to extend our gratitude to everyone who has contributed to our successful preparation and participation, be that through scheduling adjustments, financial support or simply a few words of encouragement- said Assistant Lecturer Gyula Korsoveczki.
