The University of Debrecen has received a plaque award for cooperation at the Chinese (Fujian)-Hungarin Economic and Trade Conference. The plaque says that UD cooperates with the Cinese Fujian Chuanzheng Communications College.

The Summer School of Debrecen (Debreceni Nyári Egyetem) has been expanding its system of relationships with the inclusion of Chinese universities. The students who have arrived from Tientsin were welcomed at a beginning-of-the year dinner.

Among Hungarian institutions of higher education the University of Debrecen has finished third on the most recent list of Times Higher Education World University Rankings. On the prestigious international list published Wednesday night UD was placed among the top 800-1000 category.

Two students of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Debrecen can participate in the final of the CARPE Challenge in Valencia in October after they have won the universities’ round on September 4 with their idea in the field of transport development.

A laboratory with uniquely up-to-date instrumentation that can also be used in cancer research was unveiled at the University of Debrecen on Monday. Renewed with nearly 1 billion forints, a laboratory for cell analysis bears the name of Sándor Damjanovich, a former professor of the UD.

Dóra Bodonyi, student of the UD, became a world champion in two events in the olympic qualifying phase of the world championship in kayaking and canoeing. Kinga Bágyi, dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, came out best at the 49th world championship of The World Medical Tennis Society.

On the Sunday News radio programme Zoltán Szilvássy, Rector of the University of Debrecen spoke about the economic development of the university in connection with the Chinese “One Belt, One Road” initiative and the Transit Route Via Carpatia.

Learning Hungarian and getting to know Hungarian culture was the focus of this year’s Summer University. 154 students enrolled and completed exams at the end of the one month period, with more than 80 percent of them finishing with a certificate of excellence.

Preserving its position last year, the UD is among the best 1000 universities this year again, according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities also known as the Shanghaj list. The Chinese ranking list examines and lists universities based on academic results and the number of citations.

The hearing of children born deaf or severe hearing impairment is restored by a newly developed inner ear implant which was first implanted in Hungary at the UD. The intervention was performed in joint cooperation by Debrecen specialists and a Professor of Warsaw Medical University.

Foreign students were tasting stuffed cabbage and learning to do shepherd’s dances from Hajdúság at the folk lore night of the Debrecen Summer School (Nyári Egyetem). In addition to learning Hungarian, these students are also familiarising themselves with Hungarian culture and traditions as well.

The University of Debrecen has been ranked in the top 4% by the Center for World University Rankings, which measures the performance of 20.000 institutions of higher education worldwide. The university was ranked 724 on the CWUR Ranking List published Monday.

DESzínház, the acting company of the University of Debrecen will represent Hungary at the International Amateur Theater Festival to be staged this year in New Brunswick, Canada, between August 27 and September 1.

The highest number of foreign students, one fifth of all foreign students studying in Hungary, continue to choose UD to study at. This coming autumn more than 2000 „freshmen” will start their university studies in Debrecen.
