The most widely acknowledged and esteemed experts from four different countries gave presentations at the international workshop organized on Friday by the Faculty of Economics of the University of Debrecen on environmental issues.

The Hematology Department of the University of Debrecen has been conducting hematopoietic stem cell transplantation since 2003, primarily in cases of lymph node tumors, plasma cell diseases, and acute leukemia. So far, the intervention has been performed on about 1,200 patients. Experts reported on the results of the past two decades of bone marrow transplantation activity and future plans at a scientific meeting in the Hall of the University of Debrecen on April 13.

According to a group of researchers from the University of Cluj-Napoca, tracking the movements of human eyes may turn out to be a useful diagnostic method for treating a number of diseases of nervous origin in the future. The experts gave an account of the progress of their research project by delivering a presentation at the series of events Brain Research Week hosted by their colleagues of the University of Debrecen.

The Confucius Institute of the Faculty of Humanities of UD held a conference entitled “Tea culture in China and in Hungary” in Gyomaendrőd between 21-23 October. The academic presentations were accompanied by exhibitions, concerts, dance performance and sport demonstration.

Hungary is the first country in Europe where a national skill lab network has been established. At the universities of Debrecen, Pécs and Szeged, and 16 county hospitals medical students can practice diagnostical, therapeutic and life-saving interventions using state-of-the-art equipment, in a real-life environment. Representatives of the institutions involved in the 13 billion HUF project discussed the experience obtained so far at UD on Thursday.

Without plant protection, there is no efficient agriculture, as we learned at the 27th Eastern Hungarian Plant Protection Forum. At the event, organised jointly by the Institute of Plant Protection of UD and organisations operating in the sector, experts discussed the transformation of plant protection in Hungary and the impact of the relevant EU directives.

The development possibilities of public services related to health and well-being were discussed at the joint professional-scholarly-scientific conference of the University of Debrecen and the European Economic and Social Committee. The experts of the European Union’s advisory organization have set themselves the goal of developing recommendations in support of the EU’s professional policy by using the experiences gained concerning the pandemic with the involvement of civil society and non-governmental organizations.

The Issues discussed at the Congress of the Experimental Surgery Section of the Hungarian Surgical Society (HSS) include the most recent research findings, state-of-the-art educational theories and methods, and the newest technologies applied in clinical practice such as robotic surgery. Participants of the three-day event that started on Thursday and takes place at the Kölcsey Centre will also commemorate professor István Furka, former head of the Department of Operative Techniques and Surgical Research at UD, who died last year.

Experts discussed issues related to avalanches, their prediction and impact at the Avalanche 2022 international conference, which was held at the University of Debrecen between29 August and 1 September. The interdisciplinary forum was attended by recognised researchers from around the world, including mainly physicists, geologists and biologists, and an internationally renowned brain researcher also gave a presentation at the event.

A conference on the chemistry and biology of carbohydrates has been hosted at the University of Debrecen. About 100 professionals from as many as 15 European countries and the USA, as well as from Hungary, were expected to participate in the three-day English-language conference that was launched on Wednesday in the Learning Center.
