His Excellency Mr. Ali Hadi Hameed Al-Bayati, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iraq to Hungary, has discussed issues including the increasing the number of Iraqi students enrolled at the University of Debrecen and the opportunities for cooperation in research and development with Rector Zoltán Szilvássy. During his official visit, Ali Hadi Hameed Al-Bayati also met Iraqi students at our university.

Continuing the already existing joint training programs, introducing student and teacher exchanges, offering double degree programs and initiating curriculum development are just a sample of the issues discussed at the meeting last Friday when a delegation from Beijing University of International Studies (BISU) was received by the representatives of the Rector’s Office of the University of Debrecen and the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Humanities.

Among other projects, the University of Debrecen and Thales Alenia Space, an international company specializing in the space industry, are planning to launch cooperation in the field of space implement manufacturing and space communication. On Thursday, our institution served as the venue for representatives of the company and the university to discuss the possibilities of working together on joint projects.

The University of Debrecen (UD) is intent on putting the study of biodiversity, climate change, sustainable development and water management on a new footing. As it was announced at a press conference on the subject, the unit called Biodiversity, Water Management and Climate Change Coordination Research Centre, which was established last year, would play a key strategic part in this process.

The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Hungary, Saud Al-Shamsi, also attended the University of Debrecen’s partner meeting on Friday. After the event, the diplomat discussed future cooperation opportunities with the leaders of the university and the foundation that maintains it.

Researchers of the University of Debrecen can apply for the NeurotechEU scholarship. The international organisation supports post-doctoral researchers dealing with neurotechnology. In the first round,15 post-doctoral researchers who work at any of the partner universities will be supported.

Delegates of Turku University of Applied Sciences, which is a member of the CARPE consortium, have visited the University of Debrecen. On Monday and Tuesday they learned about UD’s degree programmes and discussed potential future research cooperation. The topics of the meetings also included the international mobility of students and researchers.

The University of Debrecen has announced its next round of applications in the Erasmus programme for the academic year 2023/2024. More than 250 students will have a chance to complete a part-time study abroad or internship program in Europe or in a distant part of the world. The deadline for the applications is 15 March.

The University of Debrecen took the 89th place in the thematic ranking issued by Round University Ranking (for natural sciences). With this result, UD, the only Hungarian institution of higher education in the diamond league, was ranked in the top 100 in the 2022 rankings of RUR.

The Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Debrecen offers up-to-date knowledge, practice-oriented education and a new master’s course to students, who can study in Debrecen, Nyíregyháza and Szolnok.
