The OpenBioMaps system of the Faculty of Science and Technology of UD has won super computer capacity from the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). The biological database system will be used by natural reserves and science institutes in Hungary to study the spread of species.

On Monday, life has restarted in the University ad National Library, (DEENK), University of Debrecen. The library spaces can be visited again and services have also returned to what they were before the restrictions due to the corona virus.

Adjacent to the Learning Center, the sports facility in Dóczy street will soon turn into a Sport Campus. This year the stands will be upgraded, which will be followed by the extension of the facilities of the DEAC next year.

This year, in addition to Hungarian, the Summer University of UD is offering Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Turkish language courses as well. The online courses will be available to anyone, from anywhere.

The UD has achieved the best position in the QS ranking list since 2014. This year, UD has stepped up more than 100 positions, and has become one of the best 530 higher education institutions. As usual, UD has finished best in the category of foreign students, taking the 116th position.

The Innovation Centre and the Vaccine Pilot Plant will be the first university facilities in the Science Park of the University of Debrecen. The cornerstones of the buildings were laid on Tuesday in the presence of László Palkovics, minister of innovation and technology.

“Egészségügyi Innovációs Szemle” (Innovation in Healthcare) – this is the title of a new magazine launched jointly by the faculty of Public Health and the Faculty of Pharmacy of UD. The quarterly journal will focus on the newest achievements in the fields of medicine and health science.

For the first time in 30 years in Hungary, agricultural water management engineers have completed their final exams at UD. Seven students have obtained their degrees after finishing the MSc programme restarted in 2018. The course launched by the Faculty of Agriculture is very popular abroad as well.

Campus Festival will turn into Campus Eleven this year. Due to the epidemic, organisers decided that the 4-day-long festival will be replaced by a series of events over a period of 11 nights, called Campus Eleven. The events will take place at the usual venues.

In cooperation with the “Melletted a helyem” organisation, the students of UD studying translation at the Faculty of Humanities translated the FAQ related to the care of premature babies during the COVID-19 epidemic.

On Thursday, rector Zoltán Szilvássy and a Chinese representative talked about the most recent technologies in the construction industry, and potential partnership in the fields of health industry and medicine. The subject of a vaccine against the corona virus also came up at the meeting.

More toxic metals accumulate in spawns than in developed fish – according to researchers of the UD. For their scientific publication, the group received the Sándor Vitális Award of Excellence established by the Hungarian Hydrological Society and the General Directorate of Water Management.
