Cultural Presentation at the Confucius Institute

Within the framework of the Lectures on Chinese Culture course, representatives of the Bank of China (CEE) Ltd. held an online presentation entitled “Communication differences between the Hungarian and the Chinese culture” in English at the Confucius Institute of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen on Tuesday.

The Bank of China was established in 1912, its affiliate in Hungary started to operate in 1997. By 2017, its balance sheet total reached USD 6 billion, making the company one of the ten biggest banks in Hungary. Today, it is considered by the bank sector to be among the top 5 banks in Hungary.

- Its international reputation is demonstrated by the fact that it was the official bank of both the 2008 summer Olympic Games and the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics - explained Tan Miao, vice head of department regarding the global position of the bank and the role it plays in social and economic policy issues.

- Legal provisions are generally mandatory, which may result in problems when they are in conflict with Chinese practices. In such cases, with the involvement of lawyers, we have to explain to the Chinese management in detail why Hungarian procedures cannot be adapted to certain Chinese practices - pointed out Péter Bakos, Senior Relationship Manager to describe the differences between Hungarian and Chinese approaches.

With a view to supporting education, the Bank of China has established strategic partnership and cooperation with numerous universities in China and around the world.

–  We are confident that both the Bank and the University of Debrecen will be committed to long-term cooperation, which may result in joint educational and cultural programmes in the future - said Cui Xianjun, Chinese director of the Confucius Institute of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen in his welcome speech.

At the end of the event, Pál Csontos, Hungarian director of the Confucius Institute wished a happy International Women’s’ Day to all women present.
