An the international conference entitled “Education in Family, Family in Education” has been organised jointly by the Faculty of Education for Children and Special Educational Needs of UD and the John Paul II University Krakow. At the 2-day conference scientists presented their most recent research findings in areas like educational science, social pedagogy and sociology.

A new radioisotope therapy, so far used only in a few European institutions, has become available at the Clinical Centre of the University of Debrecen. The new treatment was first used on a patient with an endocrine tumour in Debrecen on 12 May.
The Faculty of Informatics of the University of Debrecen has established a special research and education oriented organizational unit with the Hungarian subsidiary of one of the fastest-growing software engineering companies in the world, EPAM Systems Inc. The objective of the relevant agreement is to facilitate the integration of international market expertise and up-to-date technological knowledge into the channels of education.
In the most recent rankings released by RUR (Round University Ranking), the University of Debrecen is ranked the highest among institutions of higher education in Hungary in the key area of financial sustainability. As regards the global or overall ranking position, our institution is the best among Hungarian universities, occupying the 450th place in the latest rankings prepared by the Moscow-based independent international world university ranking system.
Rotary Club Debrecen has donated equipment to the Departments of Paediatrics and Internal Medicine of the Clinical Centre of the University of Debrecen, and to the city social services. The purpose of the special beds and mattresses is to help prevent bedsore. The equipment was delivered at a ceremony held at the Clinical Centre on Monday.
Everyone visiting the 15th International Food Day on Friday was offered a wide variety of African, Asian, and American foods and flavors, not to mention the insight they could get into these cultures. Not only the international students of the University, but a number of Debrecen inhabitants were also eager to join this gastro festival.
The audience gave a standing ovation to the international students of the University of Debrecen who performed the musical Hair at UD’s theatre at the Böszörményi Street on Saturday evening. At the event a new 60sqm LED wall was also introduced, which complemented the theatrical experience with spectacular visual content.
A fund-raising peace concert initiated by the Count István Tisza Foundation for Debrecen took place at the Reformed Great Church of Debrecen Friday evening. A huge crowd filled the church to participate at the moving event that was organised for people affected by the war in Carpathian Ruthenia jointly by the Foundation that maintains the University of Debrecen, the historic Churches and the town.
Avram Hershko, a world famous chemist from Israel has received this year’s University of Debrecen Science Impact Award (uDEsia) at UD. The Nobel laureate researcher received the university’s highest scientific award from László Csernoch, vice rector for scientific affairs.

“Space peppers” grown by the University of Debrecen (UD) in the space capsule Capsitron, on display at the exhibition Álmok Álmodói 20, have been harvested recently. The closed crop production ecosystem used in the research project DE SPACE has indeed produced delectable and crunchy vegetables. In fact, experts from UD participating in the project have studied several pepper species with the aim of selecting the ones that promised the largest yield in the smallest area with zero emission.
Kinga Boros from Sepsiszentgyörgy, Romania, won the literary translation contest of drama texts called egy sima – egy fordított with her translation of a play originally written and published in Romanian. The call for this year’s competition was issued for the second time by DESZ (Debreceni Egyetem Színháza [Theater of the University of Debrecen]) in cooperation with Debrecen’s local self-government and Csokonai Színház [Csokonai Theater].
The University of Debrecen is ranked as the best Hungarian university in the most recent Impact Rankings list released by Times Higher Education in the categories Partnership for the goals and Decent work and economic growth. The prestigious British collector of performance data has ranked more than 1400 institutions of higher education worldwide, out of which UD has been ranked 401-600.
