On Orientation Day, foreign students at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Debrecen had the opportunity to learn about Hungarian and Debrecen customs and culture on Wednesday. Presentations were given in English at the event, followed by informal discussions among the participants. Every year, more and more native Hungarian speakers study courses in English at the Faculty of Economics.

A new and innovative financial product has been developed by an expert at the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Debrecen in the framework of a university collaboration. Patrícia Becsky-Nagy, Head of Department of Finance, and her research colleagues affiliated with Corvinus University of Budapest have created an innovation in the field of call option swaps by laying the theoretical foundations for a new financial product. The research results, which include complex mathematical derivations, were published in the prestigious scientific journal Finance Research Letters.

The University of Debrecen and Sunway University of Malaysia have renewed their three-year cooperation agreement, which was signed on Wednesday 18 June and will further expand educational and scientific relations between the two institutions.

Cherishing a fifty-year-old tradition, the graduating students of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food Science and Environmental Management and the Faculty of Economics and Business bade goodbye to the University of Debrecen with a joint dance performance and a horse show. During this year's Sárgulás (Yellowing: meaning the graduation of students of agriculture in Debrecen), which is the 50th in a row, the students made even the faculty and university leaders participate in a dance.

How could artificial intelligence (AI) prove to be helpful in finance, accounting and business administration? How can the appropriate use of AI affect the economic situation of businesses in our region? These are but two of the questions that the Faculties of Economics and Business of the University of Debrecen and the University of Oradea are exploring in a joint program launched recently. In addition to implementing knowledge transfer, this one-year project also aims to deepen cross-border professional and academic connections.

Extreme sports athlete Gábor Rakonczay talked about his unique journey on the stage of the oDEon theater on Thursday in a presentation dubbed “Seventy-five days and 5123 kilometers across the Atlantic Ocean from the Canary Islands to Antigua and Barbuda.” In the theater of the University of Debrecen, the two-time Guinness World Record holder revealed details about his mental and physical preparation for what he calls the critical moments and why he felt that his journey was completely “round” despite all the trials and tribulations.

The students of Faculty of Business and Economics, majoring in Tourism and Catering Management, were the first “swallows” from the University of Debrecen to take part in a short-term group study trip of the Pannonia Scholarship Program (Pannónia Ösztöndíjprogram) in the framework of their course on international tourism relations. During their three-day trip, these students visited Vienna’s City Hall, Europa Experience (the European Parliament's education and experience center in Vienna), and the interactive museum called House of Music.

The library of DEENK's (the University and National Library of the University of Debrecen (UDUNL) Böszörményi Road campus has been expanded with a twenty-first century multifunctional reading room to meet all needs. The 240-square-metre reading room features a pre-bookable study room and has been fully upgraded for sustainability, serving the teaching and research activities of the faculties on campus.

How can a woman become a successful leader? Is there a career and/or motherhood dilemma? What are the drawbacks of young people communicating today mostly in the digital space? These were some of the issues discussed recently at MÜZLI Pódium, while at another event of Debreceni Egyetem Mérnöki és Üzletfejlesztési Innovációs Intézet [Institute for Engineering and Business Development Innovation at the University of Debrecen], the Alumni Party, students could ask questions freely addressed at the master teachers in our Learning Center.

Occasionally, there might be cases when you even have to take an Olympic champion by the hand in order to help them muster enough courage to just sit for an exam. Apart from providing study organization assistance and advice, this sort of personal motivation is the “secret” of the mentoring program offered by the University of Debrecen. It cannot simply be by chance that more than a hundred top athletes have already graduated from UD without having to make a choice between sport and study.
