The repaired and renovated DASE running track has been inaugurated on Böszörményi úti campus of the University of Debrecen. The upgraded athletics track will be the university's sports education and sports science training venue. The track will be used primarily by students of the Institute for Sports Science Coordination, the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Agriculture, Food Science and Environmental Management, but it will also be available to the entire university community as well as the citizens of our city.

The maintenance and repair of the running track has been a part of the infrastructure development plans of the University of Debrecen for several years.

“There are more and more students taking sports science and physical education courses in our institution, while recreational sports are also becoming increasingly popular these days, and not only among students but also among other members of the university community. The running track at Dóczy utca could no longer satisfy the increasing demands, which is why it was important to completely renovate the athletics track,” said Zoltán Bács, Chancellor of the University of Debrecen, at the inauguration ceremony of the track on Tuesday.

László Balogh, Director of the Sports Science Coordination Institute of the University of Debrecen, underlined that the University of Debrecen, as one of the institutions of higher education in the top three percent of the world, is obliged to provide the most state-of-the-art conditions for its student.

“College-level physical education and sport is a strategic area at the University of Debrecen. Accordingly, the recently inaugurated sports venue is also a location for research and science in addition to teaching. Apart from our students majoring in sports programs, more than fifty-five hundred students take university physical education classes every semester, while another five thousand students are members of Egyetemi Életmódfejlesztési Klub [University Lifestyle Development Club] and DEAC also has more than three thousand registered athletes with competition license," said László Balogh.

The director of our Sports Science Coordination Institute added that, in compliance with the spirit of social responsibility at the University of Debrecen, he and his colleagues would prefer to see the Böszörményi úti running track also used by the citizens of Debrecen under regulated conditions.

During the renovation of the DASE running track, the experts of Globál Sport Ltd. created a standard 4-lane running track, in addition to the complete reconstruction of the structure, during which process the former clay running surface was replaced with a 13 mm Rekortan surface. The renovation of the 400-metre athletics track cost almost HUF 200 million, which the university provided entirely from its own resources.
