A new 20-bed inpatient unit of the Gastroenterology Clinic in the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen has been opened recently at Kenézy Gyula Campus. This ward is to treat primarily patients suffering from pancreatic and biliary diseases, and it has been designed to provide an even higher level of patient care than before. The activities of the new unit were presented to the management of the Clinical Center on Monday.

Nine health workers of the Clinical Centre of the University of Debrecen were honoured for their high quality and exemplary professional work on Wednesday at a ceremony held on the occasion of the Hungarian Nurses' Day. At the event, in addition to the Outstanding Worker Medal and the Reward Award, Presidential Letters of Commendation and the titles of Chief Clinical Physician were also presented.

More than forty staff members of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre were honoured for their outstanding and exemplary work at the Semmelweis Day ceremony. At Friday's event, Zoltán Szabó, President of the Clinical Centre, presented the Presidential Diplomas of Recognition, the Clinical Chief Physician Awards, the Clinical Centre Patient Care Medal, and the Outstanding Physician Medal and Award in the renovated boardroom of the President's Office.

Several new surgical techniques have been introduced in recent months at the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre for Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. The use of state-of-the-art procedures allows patients to continue their daily activities and work with the best possible quality of life.

In addition to coronary heart disease, heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias, the latest treatment options for comorbidities, including hypertension, diabetes and obesity, will be discussed by experts at the 29th Debrecen Cardiology Days, which started on Thursday. Around five hundred cardiologists, nephrologists, diabetologists and general practitioners are attending the meeting at the University of Debrecen.

The Ophthalmology Clinic of the University of Debrecen was the first in Hungary to introduce a procedure that can treat vascular melanoma while preserving the eyeball. First, the tumour is destroyed by imaging-guided, precision external beam radiation, and then the tumour tissue is removed from the inside of the eyeball by the retinal surgeon. The treatment requires close collaboration between the Oncology Clinic, the Medical Imaging Clinic and the Ophthalmology Clinic.

A delegation from BMW Group Factory Debrecen has paid a two-day visit to the Clinical Centre of the University of Debrecen. The representatives of the company were received by Professor Zoltán Szabó, President of the Clinical Centre. The delegation had the opportunity to learn about the operation of the Clinical Centre's departments and future plans for patient care during meetings at the Nagyerdei and Kenézy Gyula Campus.

Stem cell therapy is now available at the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre for the treatment of rectal fistula in patients with Crohn's disease. The procedure is a huge step forward, as it can even make the disease curable, which has not been possible with other treatments.

BMW Group Plant Debrecen Health Center has decided to support the Pediatric Clinic of the University of Debrecen with a HUF 10 million grant for the construction of a playground, the development of a community space and the care of chronically ill children. The amount was handed over by representatives of the company at a ceremony on Thursday.

The upgrading of the Bartók Béla Street Child Psychiatry Building of the University of Debrecen’s Clinical Centre, where both the outpatient departments of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department and the Clinical Psychology Centre are located, has been completed recently. The ‘new’ building, modernized out of a HUF 900 million grant, was inaugurated on Monday.
