The University of Debrecen and the company Continental have signed an agreement on joint educational, scientific and research development activities in the field of artificial intelligence-based software development projects and related technologies. The contract was drafted and signed soon after the multinational company had announced the establishment of a research and development center in Debrecen.

To mark the international day of premature babies, the Main Building of UD, the Clinical Centre, the Innovation Centre, the Stadium and the Water Tower were lit up in purple light on Thursday. The doctors and nurses who take care of premature babies also wore purple, the colour that symbolises hope and persistence. The goal of the initiative was to salute premature babies, their families, and healthcare professionals who take care of them.

It was for the second time already that the Faculty of Education for Children and Special Educational Needs of the University of Debrecen organized an international conference titled Challenge and/or Opportunity: The Integration of Roma People in Europe in order to analyze the social situation of Gypsy communities. The scholarly-scientific meeting featured presentations in as many as ten different sections.

The current trends and most recent research findings were presented at the international biotechnology symposium held at the DAB Building in Debrecen. One of the key topics was mycotoxin research.

The University of Debrecen has recently organized the scholarly-scientific conference of its colleges for advanced studies for the fourth time. At the event held in Debrecen Academic Committee Headquarters on Tuesday, students from seven disciplines gave account of their latest findings in as many as five different sections. The speakers delivering English and Hungarian presentations represented the colleges for advanced studies active in our institution and at Partium Christian University.

Those who had offered their bodies for educational and research purposes were commemorated at the Department of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology of UD on Friday. Teachers and Students expressed their gratitude and respect together.

Two researchers from UD have been involved in an international initiative (COST), which aims to improve the quality of life of patients who suffer from osteoarthritis by coordinating European research programmes and speeding up the implementation of technological developments and research results into clinical practice. Researchers from 23 countries participate in the four-year-long programme.

There will be three major sport events at UD next year. One of the most popular universities in Hungary will host prestigious international competitions.

The UniPass card management system of UD is unique in Hungary. It has been part of the everyday life of university citizens for nearly ten years. Card holders can use the services of over 50 partners, and the number of card-accepting places is increasing.

Researchers of UD have developed a technology that allows the manufacturing of a new dietary supplement by extracting antocianin from sour cherry. The consortium comprised of the university and Sorapharm Ltd. received an EU grant of over HUF 1.5 billion for the project. The dietary supplement developed in the framework of the project has been registered by the National Institute of Pharmacy and Nutrition. The results of the project were reported at UD on Thursday.

Together with the researchers of a partner company, the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of the Clinical Centre, UD, have developed a dietary supplement that may help women who live with incontinence. Combined with physical exercise, the product strengthens pelvic muscles. The dietary supplement was tested at the Clinic, the results were reported on Wednesday.

The Confucius Institute of the Faculty of Humanities of UD held a conference entitled “Tea culture in China and in Hungary” in Gyomaendrőd between 21-23 October. The academic presentations were accompanied by exhibitions, concerts, dance performance and sport demonstration.

The musical Hair, performed by a company comprised of international students, received a great applause in the university theatre. Representing 13 countries, the young actors and actresses amazed the audience on Sunday.

Hungary is the first country in Europe where a national skill lab network has been established. At the universities of Debrecen, Pécs and Szeged, and 16 county hospitals medical students can practice diagnostical, therapeutic and life-saving interventions using state-of-the-art equipment, in a real-life environment. Representatives of the institutions involved in the 13 billion HUF project discussed the experience obtained so far at UD on Thursday.
