More than 7,800 international students will be able to pursue their studies at the University of Debrecen in the 2026–2027 academic year. According to preliminary data from the Coordinating Center for International Education (CCIE), more than 2,300 freshers will begin their studies in September in first-year programs and preparatory courses, a part of whom might arrive in Hungary as participants in the Stipendium Hungaricum program.
The Mixed Choir of the Faculty of Music of the University of Debrecen and the Bárdos Girls’ Choir have achieved yet another phenomenal international success. These two choirs were invited to perform at the China International Choral Festival (CICF) in Beijing, where they gave remarkably successful concerts in impressive and modern venues with excellent acoustic features. After Beijing, their Chinese tour continued in Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province.
It is for the first time that the Department of English Linguistics at the Institute of English and American Studies, Faculty of Humanities, University of Debrecen, hosts an English-language international linguistics summer course titled OVA 2026 (Omnes Voces Acceptamus 2026). Nearly one hundred students from almost ten countries came to Debrecen for the event, held between July 27 and August 7, 2026, in order to expand their knowledge of linguistics with the help of a distinguished international faculty of instructors.

A study on this topic has been published recently in one of the most prestigious scientific journals of the world. The publication, which was produced through international collaboration, was co-authored by a professor at the University of Debrecen.
Campus Sports Festival, held at DEAC SportCampus of the University of Debrecen on Dóczy utca was concluded in a fantastic atmosphere, providing participants with a wonderful sporting and social experience. During the course of this two-day competition, students from institutions of higher education in Hungary and abroad competed in three branches of sports. Teams of the University of Debrecen won gold in men’s 3x3 basketball, 5-a-side soccer and beach volleyball.
Almost one hundred students from a total of thirty-one different countries are going to learn about the Hungarian language and culture at this year’s Debrecen Summer School. The youngest participant is only fifteen years old, while the oldest is eighty, in a program that runs from July 20 through August 14. At the ceremonial opening held on Monday in the University Church Building, scholarship awardees also received their certificates.
It was a Hungarian student of the Faculty of Law at the University of Debrecen, László Marjai, who won the Best Judge Award at the latest prestigious international labor law moot court competition named after Hugo Sinzheimer. "Music is a language that needs no translation; it connects generations, crosses national borders and unites diverse communities in a single musical motif.” This was a thought announced at the opening of the concert concluding the International Summer Academy for Young Musicians, where the Zoltán Kodály World Youth Orchestra took the stage of Kölcsey Center after thirteen days of intensive rehearsals. The young musicians then performed the greatest classical works while also paying homage to founding conductor Tamás Vásáry.
As the conclusion of its Hungarian tour, the Kunqu Theater from Suzhou, China, gave a performance on Tuesday, July 14, at the oDEon Theater in Debrecen, with its artists presenting excerpts from the most beautiful pieces of the more than 600-year-old Kunqu opera. The performance was arranged by the Confucius Institute at the Faculty of Humanities (BTK) of the University of Debrecen (UD) in collaboration with the China Cultural Center in Budapest and Ott-Home International Meeting Point of Debrecen.
The cooperation between the University of Debrecen and the Slovak University of Agriculture (SUA) in Nitra is on the way to expand by involving new academic fields of study. Apart from their collaboration in agricultural and food sciences, the two institutions are now building closer connections in the fields of engineering and economics, too. The latest agreement between the two sides about, among other things, faculty and student exchanges, joint conferences and research projects was signed on Thursday, July 9.
