Students who studied at the Debrecen Summer School for a month and those who joined it for its second two-week section have done their final examination recently. Most of the students did a written exam. The exam tasks focused on grammar and vocabulary that the students mastered excellently. As many as 50 students passed the exam on the closing day of the Summer School.

The cooperation agreement between the Botanical Garden of the University of Debrecen and Hortobágy National Park has been renewed. From now on, the garden located at the edge of the Great Forest will not only help the national park with the preservation, propagation and replantation of endangered or extinct protected plants, but it will also plan and perform the aftercare and follow-up of the replanted plants.

This year, the 53rd World Medical Tennis Championship was hosted by Semmelweis University in Budapest. This is the third time this international sports event is organized in Hungary, after 1990 and 1998. More than 350 players from 25 countries gathered to compete in 8 women’s and 10 men’s categories. In addition, players also contested in the Nations’ Cup.

The team of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen won 3rd place in the Best Presentation category at a conference held in Singapore. The main aim of the International Conference on E-Learning in Industrial Electronics is to present the connection between modern education and e-learning methods.

From September, space professionals will be trained in English at the University of Debrecen. Prospective students will be able to learn about space medicine, space telemedicine, and space pharmacy and space nutrition, among other things, as part of the UniSpace programmed. The postgraduate specialization will start in September and applications are open until 12 August.

Nearly five thousand participants from four hundred and twenty-eight universities in thirty-seven countries attended the 2024 European University Games, organized by Debrecen-Miskolc. The events at both venues were characterized by unforgettable experiences, exciting matches and a wonderful atmosphere.

The number of international students at the University of Debrecen continues to grow further. This year, around 2000 new students from foreign countries will be enrolled at our university and, in total, more than 7500 international students are expected to start their fall semester at UD as of September.

More than one hundred students attend the prestigious Debreceni Nyári Egyetem [Debrecen Summer School] this summer, coming from as many as 30 different countries to study Hungarian language and culture as well as history in the next four weeks. On Monday, a grand opening ceremony was held in the University's Main Building to welcome the participants of the first two-week course.

One hundred and fifty students and more than thirty master teachers from as many as ten different countries participated in the 23rd International Summer Academy for Young Musicians at the Faculty of Music of the University of Debrecen. Once again, it was Kossuth Prize-winning conductor Tamás Vásáry who conducted the concerts of Kodály Zoltán Ifjúsági Világzenekar [Zoltán Kodály World Youth Orchestra]. Truly unique in Europe, this summer academy offered students a choice of seventeen master courses and several additional professional sessions this year.

A new neuromonitoring system with pedicle screw stimulation has been introduced at the Department of Neurosurgery of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre. Using the procedure, the surgeon receives feedback on the position of the inserted screws during the spinal surgery, which can be corrected immediately if necessary. The new method makes it safer than ever to perform procedures to treat spinal deformities.

With athletes and referees taking their oaths and with the hoist of the flag of the European University Sports Association (EUSA), the European Universities Games officially began. About a thousand participants travelled with police escort from Debrecen to Miskolc where the grand opening ceremony was held.

Young percussionists who came to the Faculty of Music of the University of Debrecen popularized quality instrumental music with street music and advertised the concerts of the Young Musicians’ International Summer Academy. The carnival-like flashmob held in the city centre was mainly based on improvisation, which allowed the young people to get closer to the audience.

Kim Geun Yeong, a world-famous esports player has high aspirations, both as a medical student and as a professional competitor. His contract with DEAC was to end this summer, but he had it prolonged a few days ago and said that Debrecen University was proved to be the best choice for his studies and sport.

The first stage of the project launched to research the history and heritage of the Hungarian community of Montreal was completed successfully, its results and next steps were presented in mid-June at Concordia University jointly by the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen and the staff of the Consulate General of Hungary in Montreal.
