The University of Debrecen is still listed among the best 40 higher education institutions in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Region ranking of the QS World University Rankings. In addition, UD has jumped to place 204th in the Green Metric sustainability ranking.

This year the Debrecen Award for Molecular Medicine went to Katalin Karikó. The Hungarian Széchenyi laureate research biologist, who patented the synthetic mRNS-based vaccine technology, received the prize at a ceremony held at the University of Debrecen on Tuesday. She also gave a presentation to the audience.
At its meeting held on 9 December 2021, the Senate of the University of Debrecen made a decision regarding the preferred candidate for the position of Rector. The Senate recommended the appointment of Zoltán Szilvássy as Rector by the Board of Trustees of the foundation maintaining the university. The Senate also made decisions about the launch of new courses, business partnerships, and the amendment of several regulations.
New medical doctors, Hungarian and foreign nationals as well, took the Hippocratic oath at the ceremonial council meeting of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Debrecen on Saturday. At the event, which was organised in line with the strict anti-epidemic measures, 67 medical doctors received their diplomas.
A spectacular time-lapse video has been made to present the construction works of the Learning Center. The construction of the multifunctional learning center of the University of Debrecen began in the spring of 2020.
