Commissioned by European University Sports Association (EUSA), the next European University Games (EUG) between July 12 and 24, 2024, will be hosted jointly by Hungarian University and College Sports Association (Magyar Egyetemi-Főiskolai Sportszövetség - MEFS), the University of Debrecen, the University of Miskolc, National Event Management Agency, the City of Debrecen and the City of Miskolc. More than 5,000 participants from as many as 400 universities in 40 countries are expected to participate in this multi-sport event, which will feature competitions in 17 branches and divisions of sport in the two cities.

The University of Debrecen has signed a cooperation agreement with Eve Power Hungary Kft. concerning human resources training, a student scholarship programme, joint research and development activities and the establishment of a battery research institute. Eve Power, the world's ninth largest battery manufacturer, is building its first European plant in Debrecen.
According to Mr. Hu Tao, the CEO of SEMCORP Hungary Kft., the Hungarian branch of the global leader in the production of lithium-ion battery separator films is seeking long-term cooperation opportunities with the University of Debrecen. Mr. Tao made this announcement before signing an agreement on joint research, development and education with the leaders of our institution.
Greta Grof-Tisza is studying at the University of Debrecen, founded with the support of her great-great grandfather. Although the young student was ware that she was a descendant of the former Prime Minister, Count István Tisza, she only experienced the significance of his legacy once she arrive don the premsises of the university. The late Prime Minister's descendant was received by Rector Zoltán Szilvássy and Chancellor Zoltán Bács in the Main Building.
Rudolf Schuster, former President of the Slovak Republic, celebrates his 90th birthday on 4 January. The politician, who played a key role in deepening Slovak-Hungarian relations, was awarded the Civis Honoris Causa award, one of the most prestigious honours of the University of Debrecen in 2016.
On Tuesday evening, students and employees of the University of Debrecen had a chance to view a portrait film in the university theatre hall about the career of the legendary youth coach of Real Madrid, József Tóth-Zele. The premiere, which was combined with a Q&A session with the audience, was also attended by the 88-year-old title character and the producer of the film, Ambassador Barnabás Kovács.
Participants in Hungary’s largest sports conference could get acquainted with the sports ecosystem of the University of Debrecen, which is unique in Hungary, as well as with its extensive sports science trainings and innovations. The experts of our Sports Science Coordination Institute prepared several presentations for this event and even a stand as the only higher education institution to display information there.
The repaired and renovated DASE running track has been inaugurated on Böszörményi úti campus of the University of Debrecen. The upgraded athletics track will be the university's sports education and sports science training venue. The track will be used primarily by students of the Institute for Sports Science Coordination, the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Agriculture, Food Science and Environmental Management, but it will also be available to the entire university community as well as the citizens of our city.
More participants than ever before welcomed the most recent academic year at the seventh yoUDay stadium show hosted by the University of Debrecen. As many as 23,000 people were partying together at the event, which is unique in Europe and where singers and musicians like Dzsúdló, Valmar, György Korda and Klári Balázs performed, among others.
The University of Debrecen and GE HealthCare have concluded and signed a research and development agreement to support radiotherapy treatment. The Department of Oncoradiology is the first institution in Europe to test the GE HealthCare software that constitutes a system of highly complex radiation therapy procedures. As for now, the application is only used in a testing environment but, once it gets involved in patient care, it will be able to provide more effective oncoradiology treatments.
