This year, the 53rd World Medical Tennis Championship was hosted by Semmelweis University in Budapest. This is the third time this international sports event is organized in Hungary, after 1990 and 1998. More than 350 players from 25 countries gathered to compete in 8 women’s and 10 men’s categories. In addition, players also contested in the Nations’ Cup.

The DEAC fencer, a student of the University of Debrecen's Faculty of Economics and Business Administration majoring in Recreation and Lifestyle, has taken a big step towards Olympic participation in Paris.
New expanded wings, classrooms, offices and exhibition areas have been added to the old grandstand of DEAC, which was originally built in 1928. At the inauguration ceremony of the new facility, Minister of State for Sport Ádám Schmidt spoke with appreciation of the overall sports concept implemented by the University of Debrecen.
The DEAC female fencer fought irresistibly all through the day in Athens, allowing her to rise to the top of the winners podium.
The university sports club DEAC can now boast of yet another outstanding sporting achievement: Gábor Máthé won the hearing-impaired competition at the Australian Open tennis championships at the weekend. The Debrecen-based competitor, prepared and trained by legendary athlete Andrea Temesvári, was able to compete among the top eight female and male deaf tennis players of the world in the opening Grand Slam tournament of the year.
There will be three major sport events at UD next year. One of the most popular universities in Hungary will host prestigious international competitions.
The University of Debrecen celebrated the beginning of the new academic year with a full-house event at the Nagyerdei Stadium on Wednesday. In addition to Hungarian stars, artists of the Institute of Pop Music and international students of the oDEon company also gave concerts. About 20,000 people attended the 6th year-opening stadium show of UD.
Visitors of the Puskás Day, organised at the Hungarian Pavilion of the Dubai World Expo, were able to familiarize themselves with the innovative sports strategy and sports infrastructural and sport economic developments of the University of Debrecen, and with the organisational structure, operational model and achievements of DEAC.
A stage bigger than ever, concerts by Tankcsapda, Republic and Kati Wolf, a variety show performed by DEAC athletes and artists from the oDEon University Theatre - yoUDay marked the launch of the new semester at the UD with spectacular programmes. 11,000 people came together at Nagyerdei Stadium.
