The University of Debrecen has improved its results in several areas on the university rankings. The performance of UD has improved not only among the universities in Hungary but also among international institutions, as a result of a conscious strategy plan.

The European Commissions’s delegation was informed on the utilisation of EU Structural and Investment Funds, research and development investments by the University of Debrecen on wednesday.

Valina L. Dawson was presented the “Debrecen Award for Molecular Medicine” on 26th November by University of Debrecen. She was awarded for her findings facilitating Parkinson’s disease and stroke treatment. The neurologist professor is the first woman to receive the prestigious award.

UD has improved its position on the thematic lists of Times Higher Education. In the area of natural sciences the institution moved up on the list compared to the previous year, and it is ranked in the top 800. UD is ranked again in the top 600 this year in the areas of life and medical sciences.

Chinese language teaching and promotion of Chinese culture – these are the main goals of the Confucius Institute established at the UD. The institution was set up in a cultural and educational cooperation of UD and the Chinese Tianjin Foreign Language University, and it was opened on Friday.

A unique English-language master course was announced to be launched by the Faculty of Health at a press conference on Monday at the Nyíregyháza campus. The Social Work and Social Economy course (SOWOSEC) will start in September 2020 and is conducted by a cooperation of seven European universities.

The University of Debrecen achieved first place in Life Sciences and second in Medicine among national institutions on the 2019 lists of the Round University Ranking (RUR) published on Monday. In the global rankings UD has made it to the top 350 in both areas.

Internationally acknowledged researchers of evolutionary biology and ecology presented the latest results concerning reproduction strategies at an international symposium on Thursday at the University of Debrecen.

The quadruplets born on Thursday at the Department of Obstetrics of the Clinical Center of the UD will be released to their home in a few weeks’ time. The three girls and one boy are still in incubators, but all of them are healthy. The babies were conceived by way of in vitro fertilization.
