Representatives of three Asian higher education institutions came to the University of Debrecen supported by iStudy to explore educational and research cooperation and to introduce Hungarian and foreign students to Chinese university and scholarship opportunities. The delegation members gained an understanding of the institution's education system, infrastructure and met students.

A record number of students attended 4th International Academic Conference at the University of Debrecen. Organized by International Student Union (ISU), the event was attended by over 400 students, who listened to presentations on academic work in the faculties, TDK opportunities and the institution's talent management programs.

This year, in the Hungarian round of the international competition of the leading nuclear energy corporation, Rosatom, the students’ task was to develop a digital patient management system in 24 hours. The University of Debrecen hosted the Global Hackatom Hungary in Nuclear Medicine event, where one of the teams from the host institution finished on top and will thus represent our country in the international finals in the autumn.

More than 5,000 people attended the gastronomic festival of foreign students of the University of Debrecen, exceeding the previous year's record attendance. Part of the proceeds of the event, which lasted until dawn, will be donated to charity by the organising students.

The University of Pattimura, Indonesia, and Debreceni Egyetem (DE) [University of Debrecen (UD)] have signed a framework agreement on cooperation that will facilitate student exchanges, faculty mobility and academic collaboration in the future, primarily in the fields of teacher training, ethnography and cultural anthropology, as well as psychological sciences.

The representatives of twelve different countries, one acting company and the fourth premiere: these are the buzzwords that explain why all the tickets were sold out in one day for oDEon's latest English-language production, staged by the international students of the University of Debrecen “as a bomb.”

On the occasion of the Day of Hungarian Poetry, foreign and Hungarian students wrote a few lines of their favourite poems on the glass walls of the two libraries of the University of Debrecen. It was the first time that students shared their literary thoughts on the glass walls of the Böszörményi Street Campus Library in addition to the Life and Natural Sciences Library.

The Confucius Institute of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen arranged a commemorative ceremony on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of its foundation. The special event was attended by the instructors and the heads of the institute and of the faculty as well as the representatives of the management of Tianjin Foreign Studies University and the Education Counsellor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Budapest.

As many as fifteen students from countries ranging from Syria to Uganda have auditioned for the parts of Ariel, Prince Eric, King Triton and Ursula at oDEon. The international theatrical company of the University of Debrecen schedules to present its latest production of an English-language musical, “The Little Mermaid,” in April.

The ambassador of Egypt to Hungary has offered the University of Debrecen the possibility of joining the Egyptian International University Campus. Ms. Heba Negm held talks with our institution's leaders on Thursday and she also met with Egyptian students enrolled here.

The number of foreign students at the University of Debrecen has increased by five percent, while the number of foreign students studying at the University of Debrecen has increased by fifteen percent. In the 2024/2025 academic year, 2,100 students started their studies on UD's English-language courses, making the institution's international community larger than ever, with more than 7,600 students.

China’s iStudy and Vietnam CentrePoint have been placing foreign students at the University of Debrecen for two decades. The international education agencies have linked thousands of foreign students to the university in recent years. At the anniversary celebrations in Nanjing and Ho Chi Minh City, former students from Debrecen also spoke about their career paths.

The Confucius Institute of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen (DE) organized this year's traditional conference in Gyomaendrőd on the theme of Song, Music, Folklore, Mythology in Chinese Culture and Language Teaching. In addition to professional presentations, the Saturday conference was enriched by Chinese and Hungarian music and dance performances.

Following a line of previous successful events of this kind, the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) and the Faculty of Agriculture, Food Science and Environmental Management have jointly hosted an Orientation Day for first-year international undergraduate, master's and PhD students. The objective of Wednesday's event was to present the cultural, leisure and social opportunities available at the university, at the faculties and in the city of Debrecen, as well as to provide useful information to help young foreigners integrate into our university community.

The University of Debrecen made the start of the academic year unforgettable again this year with a great atmosphere with Hungarian stars, a laser show with a German star DJ and a touching proposal in front of 20,000 people. On this year's yoUDay, on Wednesday evening, university students and staff, partners, high school students and residents of the city celebrated together again.

Students from twenty-three countries, including Tanzania, have arrived at the University of Debrecen for the autumn semester. The International Office of the institution and the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Student Government welcomed them on Wednesday at the traditional Welcome Dinner. At the welcome dinner, the foreign students were given a taste of Hungarian gastronomy and were also introduced to local dances.

The Confucius Institute of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen (DE) will hold the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival on Saturday, 14 September. This time, Chinese students and lecturers of the institution will present a colorful program of music and dance in connection with the Panda Days of the Nagyerdei Cultural Park.

The number of international students at the University of Debrecen continues to grow further. This year, around 2000 new students from foreign countries will be enrolled at our university and, in total, more than 7500 international students are expected to start their fall semester at UD as of September.

The International Student Union (ISU), an organization of foreign students of the University of Debrecen, donated more than one million HUF from the proceeds of this year's Food Day to the Foundation for Children with Leukemia. The money will be used to build a special sterile room in the paediatric haematology-oncology department.

The summer graduation ceremonies of the University of Debrecen (DE) are about to begin. Between 15 June and 2 July, almost 4,000 graduates from 13 faculties of the institution will receive their degrees.

The Chinese students who are enrolled at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen have received their Hungarian diplomas, as first in the history of our institution and faculty to earn a Master's degree (MA). Quite a few of these graduates plan to make use of their knowledge and skills in the future in Hungary.

The University of Debrecen has held its traditional spring doctoral and honorary doctoral inauguration ceremony. At this event on Friday, as many as 130 new doctoral candidates in five different disciplines received their degrees, while titles of habilitated doctor, professor emeritus and emeritus advisor were also conferred. Helmut Flachenecker, Professor at the University of Würzburg in Germany, was awarded an honorary doctoral degree, while ecologist Csaba Aradi received a Pro Universitate award.

Her Excellency, the Ambassador of Norway to Hungary, visited the University of Debrecen on Friday to learn more about our institution’s program and research structure, its international relations and its extensive network of industrial partners. Trine Skymoen would wish to promote an increase in the number of Norwegian students enrolled at UD.

A conference organised by the International Student Union (ISU), an association of foreign students, was held on Thursday at the Learning Center: students enrolled in the English-language programmes of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen (DE TTK) heard presentations on scientific work, the opportunities of TDK (Students’ Scientific Research) and the institution's talent management programmes.

Upon the invitation of students from the Philippines, the Ambassador of the Southeast Asian island state to Hungary also visited the University of Debrecen on its International Food Day, an international gastronomic festival. Frank R. Cimafranca and his delegation members were received by Rector Zoltán Szilvássy.
