The Confucius Institute of the Faculty of Humanities of UD celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival with an exhibition of Chinese artworks. Tea ceremony and traditional mooncake awaited visitors at the event, where new teachers of the Institute were also introduced.

The number of foreign students at the University of Debrecen continues to grow. In September, more than two thousand students will begin their studies on the university’s English language courses. In the academic year 2022/23, it is expected that more than 7,200 people, more than a fifth of the foreign students studying in Hungary, will be studying at the University of Debrecen.

The eight pilots – from Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Hungary, Mongolia, Turkey and Ukraine - who were the first in the history of the University of Debrecen and the faculty to graduate after completing the "Professional pilot" training, received their diplomas at the ceremony of the Technical Faculty of the University of Debrecen.

The biggest summer music event in East Hungary will return to full capacity this year, and the organizers are again hoping for hundreds of thousands of visitors. The University of Debrecen will present itself at this year's Campus Festival in a larger area than before, at a new location, with a focus on internationalization.

This weekend the summer series of graduation ceremonies will begin at the University of Debrecen. In the weeks to come, about 4,000 graduates will receive their degrees. The first ceremonies will be held on 17 June, Friday, at 10 am and at 13 am, when students of the Faculty of Economics and Business will graduate at the Cour d’Honneur of the Main Building.

The Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen released the first Chinese students who completed the Hungarian-language BA course in Hungarian language and literature at the speech day event held in the Main Building of UD on Friday. The 12 Chinese graduates started their studies in Debrecen three years ago within the framework of an international educational programme.

Everyone visiting the 15th International Food Day on Friday was offered a wide variety of African, Asian, and American foods and flavors, not to mention the insight they could get into these cultures. Not only the international students of the University, but a number of Debrecen inhabitants were also eager to join this gastro festival.

Students who are currently enrolled in the English-language programs offered by the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) were given presentations at an event organized by the International Student Union (ISU) on the academic work conducted at the FST, the possibilities for getting involved in TDK (Student Scientific Conference) and on the talent management programs conducted by the university.

The University of Debrecen has recently established a committee called Humanitárius Koordinációs Bizottság. Our institution has taken an active part in assisting refugees of the Ukrainian-Russian war from the very beginning but the prolongation of the conflict has ultimately made it necessary to draft a complex humanitarian plan for handling the situation.

The University of Debrecen has made about 300 dormitory places available to students, teachers and others fleeing Carpathian Ruthenia. People asking for help have been arriving since Friday evening. In the meantime, the Student Council has launched a donation campaign.

A spectacular time-lapse video has been made to present the construction works of the Learning Center. The construction of the multifunctional learning center of the University of Debrecen began in the spring of 2020.

The University of Debrecen actively supports the activities of the recently established Jewish Scientific and Cultural Research Institute in Debrecen, stressed Elek Bartha, UD’s Vice-Rector for Education, at the organisation's partnership meeting.

Mobility, study abroad and internship opportunities were presented to the students of the University of Debrecen at the Foreign Exchange on the #ErasmusDays in the cloister of the Main Building. This year's exchange focused on the opportunities offered by the Erasmus + programme.

In connection with the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festivities and with the start of the rice harvest in Hungary, the Confucius Institute of the Faculty of Humanities of the UD held a conference titled “Rice in China and in Hungary” on Saturday in the settlement Gyomaendrőd.

Last weekend over 200 Hungarian and foreign graduates took the Hippocratic oath and received their degrees at the ceremony of the Faculty of Medicine. The dean of the faculty emphasized that the newly graduated doctors acquired their knowledge at one of the best Hungarian universities.

In the academic year 2021/2022 the number of foreign students studying at the UD may reach 7,500. Compared to last year’s figure, it represents a 10 percent increase, which can be explained in part by the ongoing popularity of UD among applicants of the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme.

“The state has not released the hands of the universities, and in fact it provides more resources than ever before,” emphasized László Palkovics, Minister of Innovation and Technology, at the opening ceremony of the UD in the Nagyerdei Stadium. Approximately 10000 freshers are starting the new year.

The leaders of the University of Debrecen met with the delegation of three higher education institutions in Uzbekistan to discuss the experiences of pharmaceutical and agricultural education in Debrecen and the establishment of a Hungarian-Uzbek joint degree programme in these fields.

Due to the high number of graduating students and the restrictions introduced during the pandemic situation, the UD organized its closing ceremony at the Nagyerdei Stadium, like last year. On Saturday, students of four faculties celebrated the end of their university studies.

The Faculty of Humanities of the UD has also been a participant in the NeurotechEU program initiated jointly by eight universities in Europe. Scholars from the faculty conducting research in English language and culture will present the results of their academic efforts at a conference.

On Thursday, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Hungary consulted the leadership of the UD on the issues of educational and research cooperation projects between our university and institutions of higher education in Kazakhstan as well as increasing the number of Kazakh students enrolled at UD.

21,000 applicants have chosen the University of Debrecen as a host institute in the 2021/22 Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme, accounting for 42% of all applications. The most popular courses are the public health and the technical programmes of UD.

In the following two weeks, between 18 and 29 January, 70 students from nearly 30 countries will learn Hungarian in ten groups at the "Summer" University.
