Students at the University of Debrecen (DE) will soon be able to learn about U.S. history through a new hybrid course. The program is being developed through a collaboration between faculty members of the English-American Institute at the Faculty of Humanities. UD, (BTK) and Earl Mulderink, a professor of history at Southern Utah University (SUU), under a cooperation agreement signed last year to promote educational and research projects.

The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Debrecen has been ranked among the world’s top 550 institutions. For the first time in its history, the faculty has been included in the Quacquarelli Symonds 2026 subject rankings among the world’s top 550 institutions.
A cooperation agreement was signed on Thursday, March 26, by the leaders of the University of Debrecen and those of the Education University of Hong Kong in order to launch faculty and student exchanges as well as joint research projects in the future. The significance of this agreement is also indicated by the fact that UD is the first Hungarian university with which the institution located in the Far East has signed such an agreement on the basis of successful preliminary negotiations.
An international academic conference was hosted on March 6 and 7 in the Sándor Karácsony Hall of our Main Building by Memoria Hungariae Research Group and Hungarian-Dutch Relations Research Group of the University of Debrecen (UD) under the title “Relations of the Low Countries from the Middle Ages to the Present.” Apart from representatives of Hungarian institutions of higher education and public collections, there were also participants attending the conference from the Czech Republic and the Netherlands.
Andrea Nagy has become the recipient of a prestigious award in recognition of her exceptional commitment to promoting French language and culture. The head of the French Department within the Institute of Mediterranean Languages and Cultures at the Faculty of Humanities (BTK) of the University of Debrecen (UD) has received the Knight’s Cross of the French Order of Academic Palms (Ordre des Palmes académiques) from Ambassador Jonathan Lacôte at a ceremony held in the French Ambassador’s Residence in Budapest.
The latest findings and results of an international, interdisciplinary research project initiated and launched by the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Debrecen were presented in December at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec. Attendants at the event could learn about the relevant publications released so far, an interactive map available in two languages, and the long-term plans for continuing the research activities.
The most recent scientific findings in the field of sexual psychology have been discussed recently by experts at an international conference in Debrecen. This International Conference on Sexual Well-Being was organized by the joint research group (called Intercultural Sexualpsychology Research Group) formed by the Institute of Psychology of the Faculty of Humanities (BTK) at the University of Debrecen (DE) and the University of Malaga, Spain, on Wednesday, October 15, at the Headquarters of the Debrecen Academic Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
Irish Ambassador to Hungary Ragnar Almqvist has recently visited the University of Debrecen, accompanied by his mother, Éilís Ní Dhuibhne, a distinguished representative of Irish literature. The visitors discussed the relationship between literature and diplomacy with students of the Institute of English and American Studies of the Faculty of Humanities.
BMW Group Plant Debrecen has recently expanded its strategic partnership with the University of Debrecen. The strategic cooperation between the German car manufacturer and our institution of higher education, which has been in effect since 2023, has been joined by the Faculty of Humanities as well as the unit Agricultural Research Institutes and Experimental Farm. The relevant agreement was signed on Tuesday by the leaders of the university and those of the company.
A project launched by the University of Debrecen exploring the history of the Hungarian diaspora in Canada has been enriched with special documents, including personal papers related to the founding of Hungarian United Church of Montreal in 1926. The personal papers of Mihály Fehér, a former student of Debrecen’s Reformed College and the Royal Hungarian István Tisza University of Debrecen, were returned to Hungary thanks to his family's donation.
