Several new volumes have been added to the Italianistica Pannonica series of the Italian Studies Department of the Faculty of Humanities (FoH) of the University of Debrecen (UD). These three publications, which discuss common Italian-Hungarian historical events, were presented to the members of a select audience on Thursday at the Library of the Hungarian Institute of Literature and Cultural Studies.

After a Memorandum of Understanding between Sunway University (SU), Malaysia and the University of Debrecen (UD) was signed a year ago, several educational and research projects have started between the Centre for English Language Studies, SU (CELS) and our Faculty of Humanities/Institute of English and American Studies (UD), also accompanied by staff exchange facilitated by an Erasmus+ contract.
The János Arany Centre, founded in 2018 by Debrecen Summer University and Tianjin University of Foreign Languages, announced a pronunciation competition for Chinese students majoring in Hungarian language and literature, on the occasion of the day of the Hungarian language.
The “youngest” Austrian library in Hungary, Debreceni Ausztria Könyvtár [Austria Library of Debrecen], celebrated the thirtieth anniversary of its opening recently. The University and National Library of the University of Debrecen [DEENK] held a festive symposium on the occasion of this jubilee, where attention was drawn to the colorful cultural offer of the Austrian library's stock and the possibilities of bibliothecas as cultural hubs.

Roman Czaja, a professor and department head at Uniwersytet Mikołaja Kopernika in Toruń, who is also an honorary doctor of the University of Debrecen, was the first lecturer to deliver a presentation on Wednesday in the framework of the international lecture series launched by the research group Magyar Kutatási Hálózat-Debreceni Egyetem: „Középkori Magyarország és Közép-Európa Hadtörténete” [Hungarian Research Network-University of Debrecen: "Military History of Medieval Hungary and Central Europe."
Joining the initiative of the European Day of Languages, the University of Debrecen held a series of programs by the title Európai Nyelvi Koktélbár [verbatim: European Language Cocktail Bar] again this year. On Tuesday, almost 600 high school students could take a playful virtual trip to “visit” European countries in the Inner Courtyard of the Main Building of UD.
As part of the series of programmes to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Department of French Studies, an international conference entitled Un siècle de dialogues was held between 31 August and 1 September in the Main Building of UD.

The Faculty of Humanities (FoH) of the University of Debrecen (UD) said goodbye to its Chinese students graduating in Hungarian studies on Thursday at the end-of-the-academic-year ceremony held in the Main Building. The 15 Chinese graduates started their studies in Debrecen three years ago, thanks to an international educational cooperation.
The University and National Library of the University of Debrecen (DEENK) also supports the reform of research evaluation in the transformation of open science, i.e. the system and value system of research. To this end, it was said at the seventh Open Science Forum that DEENK supports the dialogue within the institution and plays a change management role.

Our international academic relations and projects of cooperation were both promoted and strengthened by the interdisciplinary conference titled Kazakh-Hungarian cultural narratives, social and economic diversity. The London-based Routledge has published a book entitled Vikings of the Steppe. The author is Csete Katona, a young assistant lecturer who works at the Department of Medieval and Early Modern History of the Institute of History.
Giacomo Maria Oliva, Deputy Director of the museum Museo di Reggio Calabria in Italy, gave a talk in Italian on Wednesday at the University of Debrecen titled Bronzi di Riace. The topic he covered was the (hi)story of the ancient Greek bronze statues that had been discovered in the sea near the Calabrian city of Riace in 1972.
During his stay in Debrecen, Markku Virri, outgoing ambassador of Finland to Hungary visited the University of Debrecen, where he was welcomed by Róbert Keményfi, dean of the Faculty of Humanities, and Sándor Maticsák, head of the Department of Finno-Ugrik Linguistics on Friday.
This summer the University of Debrecen will host the annual course of the Eastern and Central European and Dutch Inter-University Cooperation (COMENIUS), which will be organised for the second time after 2007 by the Department of Dutch Studies of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen.
Fifty two Hungarian and international historians presented their recent results in 16 sections at an international conference organised jointly by the Institute of History of the Faculty of Humanities of the U of Debrecen, the Histoire et Cultures de l’Antiquité et du Moyen Âge – Université de Lorraine Nancy-Metz (France), and the Centro de História da Sociedade e da Cultura, Universidade de Coimbra (Portugal), between 22–24 June.
An English-language series of publications has been launched jointly by IEAS (Institute of English and American Studies) of the Faculty of Humanities at UD and DUPress (Debrecen University Press). The book launch of the first item in the series called HJEAS Books, Donald E. Morse’s It’s Time: What Living in Time Is Like, was held on Tuesday in DEENK (Debrecen Egyetem Egyetemi és Nemzeti Könyvtár [University and National Library of UD]).
The Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen released the first Chinese students who completed the Hungarian-language BA course in Hungarian language and literature at the speech day event held in the Main Building of UD on Friday. The 12 Chinese graduates started their studies in Debrecen three years ago within the framework of an international educational programme.
The entries that had made it to the final of the students’ competition on the subject of the psychological aspects of human-robot interactions were exhibited and awarded at the Department of Psychology of the University of Debrecen on Thursday. The programme was also a contribution of the Faculty of Humanities to the university’s Neurotech project.
