The 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Hungary and Vietnam was commemorated by a conference held at the University of Debrecen, on 31 October. Nguyen Tien Thuc, Vietnamese ambassador to Hungary, also attended the event.

The University of Debrecen has launched a mental support service for its foreign students, based at the School of Public Health of the Faculty of Public Health. The faculty works together with the Mental Health Centre, which will be responsible for the coordination of the services provided.
Foreign students studying at UD can only enter the country if they have no symptoms, but they still have to spend 14 days in quarantine and demonstrate two negative PCR tests. They can indicate their status with a sticker on the door in order to ease their neighbours’ minds.
The UD has achieved the best position in the QS ranking list since 2014. This year, UD has stepped up more than 100 positions, and has become one of the best 530 higher education institutions. As usual, UD has finished best in the category of foreign students, taking the 116th position.
For the first time in the almost 100-year history of the Summer University, this year, due to the epidemic, foreigners interested in Hungarian language and culture can only attend online courses.
This year again, the semester-opening show will be held to present everyone with fun and great experiences. The list of performers includes the Tankcsapda, the Bagossy Brothers Company and Republic. The event will take place at the Stadium on 16 September.

The University of Debrecen has improved its results in several areas on the university rankings. The performance of UD has improved not only among the universities in Hungary but also among international institutions, as a result of a conscious strategy plan.
The Summer School of Debrecen (Debreceni Nyári Egyetem) has been expanding its system of relationships with the inclusion of Chinese universities. The students who have arrived from Tientsin were welcomed at a beginning-of-the year dinner.
Learning Hungarian and getting to know Hungarian culture was the focus of this year’s Summer University. 154 students enrolled and completed exams at the end of the one month period, with more than 80 percent of them finishing with a certificate of excellence.
Foreign students were tasting stuffed cabbage and learning to do shepherd’s dances from Hajdúság at the folk lore night of the Debrecen Summer School (Nyári Egyetem). In addition to learning Hungarian, these students are also familiarising themselves with Hungarian culture and traditions as well.
The Debrecen Summer School began its 92nd academic year on Monday. This year 160 students have arrived from 33 countries to attend the courses and acquire Hungarian as a foreign language ad familiarise themselves with our country’s culture and history.
The UD has made it to the list of Europe Teaching Rankings 2019 made by Times Higher Education in terms of teaching excellence for the first time ever, coming out immediately as a finalist among Hungarian universities. The ranking examined 258 institutions of higher education of 18 countries.

The Faculty of Health of the University of Debrecen offers a master’s programme that is unique in Europe. The healthcare social worker programme was launched in 2017, and is already very popular.
This year the University of Debrecen hosts the Meeting of Hungarian International Coordinators between 14-16 November, where the employees of higher educational institutions dealing with international affairs discuss issues related to students' and lecturers' mobility.
