Secretary General Of FIBA Visited UD

Andreas Zagkiis, general secretary of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has visited the University of Debrecen. He came to see the 3x3 basketball Youth Festival and the World Tour in Debrecen. Mr. Zagkiis was welcomed by rector Zoltán Szilvássy and chancellor Zoltán Bács.

At the meeting held on Thursday, participants talked about the role of sports in society, the importance of university sport life, and the sports strategy of UD, among other things. Andreas Zagklis acknowledged the dedicated and successful efforts of UD to promote sports.

- This is the first time that FIBA has asked the same town for the third time in a row to organise the youth world cup. We are confident that Debrecen will be able to attract the best players from around the world every year. Your greatest strengths are university sport life in the town and institutions like UD that pay great attention to sports – said Andreas Zagkiis.


As chancellor Zoltán Bács informed hirek.unideb.hu, participants at the meeting also talked about the 2024 European University Games, which will be organised in Hungary for the first time by UD and the University of Miskolc, with the support of the self-governments of the two respective cities, the Hungarian University Sports Federation, sport associations, and the Hungarian government.
