Aurelia Skipwith Giacometto, Secretary of the Environment in Louisiana, was presented with the title of Honorary Citizen by the University of Debrecen at a ceremonial Senate meeting held to commemorate the 106th anniversary of the death of Count István Tisza. Appointments and awards were presented at the event, which was attended by descendants of the former Prime Minister.

The necessity of biodiversity monitoring, modern data collection methods, the socio-economic use of information obtained through monitoring, the launch of the environmental monitoring system of the University of Debrecen and the current phases of the work were also discussed at the 1st Biodiversity Conference.

The Da Vinci robot-assisted surgical system has arrived at the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre. The 21st-century, state-of-the-art technology is used primarily in general surgery, as well as surgical procedures in urology, gynaecology and otolaryngology. Thanks to the precise and safe surgical techniques made possible by it, the risk of complications is reduced and recovery times are shortened. The investment of more than one billion Hungarian forints in robotic surgery was officially introduced at the institution on Tuesday.

The Cornea Outpatient Clinic, which was inaugurated on Thursday at the Ophthalmology Department of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre, uses state-of-the-art equipment to support the early detection of corneal diseases and provide better conditions for corneal surgery. The complexity of the equipment found in the clinic consisting of two surgeries and a treatment room is unique in the country. In addition to the outpatient clinic, the Cornea Bank, which has been operating for 30 years, also contributes to the excellence of the Ophthalmology Department.

This new type of energy store is based on cellulose and uses biodegradable materials as additives and membranes. Its development is in the scale-up phase.

At the inaugural meeting on Wednesday, the dignitaries from Hungary and abroad making up the board introduced themselves and received their credentials at the same time.

The University of Debrecen celebrated the beginning of the new academic year with a full-house event at the Nagyerdei Stadium on Wednesday. More than 36 million HUF was raised during the charity fundraising event linked to the Concert for Peace organized by the board of trustees of the István Tisza University of Debrecen Foundation, supported by the University of Debrecen, to help Ukrainian refuges. The donations are at the disposal of five aid organizations to spend to provide for a support people who are in a difficult situation due to the war.

A fund-raising peace concert initiated by the Count István Tisza Foundation for Debrecen took place at the Reformed Great Church of Debrecen Friday evening. A huge crowd filled the church to participate at the moving event that was organised for people affected by the war in Carpathian Ruthenia jointly by the Foundation that maintains the University of Debrecen, the historic Churches and the town.

Mr. Gunnar Saeter, professor of the Center for Comprehensive Oncology at the University Clinic of Oslo (N), and a member of the Scientific and Social Advisory Board (TTTT), which assists the work of the Chairperson of the Board of the Count István Tisza Foundation for the University of Debrecen, visited the University on Friday. The Norwegian professor gave a presentation on some new opportunities in cancer research.

The Count István Tisza Foundation for the University of Debrecen has called on the leaders of the city and the heads of the historical churches to work together and use the strength of this togetherness to help the people in need due to the Ukrainian - Russian conflict. On May 6, a large-scale relief concert will be held together with fundraising.

Elias Arnér, a biochemist from the renowned Karolinska Institute of Stockholm, has visited the University of Debrecen to give a presentation on his area of research. Professor Arnér, who is also a member of Tudományos és Társadalmi Tanácsadó Testület (TTTT), an academic and social advisory body to support the work of the president of the Board of Trustees of Count István Tisza Foundation for the University of Debrecen, was the first “instructor” to register a grade in the symbolic grade book of TTTT following his talk.
