Many of the teachers, researchers and students of the University of Debrecen followed the online opening event of NeurotechEU, a university association comprised of leading universities from eight countries, established for the development of neuroscience

In cooperation with leading universities from seven countries, the University of Debrecen has established a consortium for the development of neuroscience. The opening ceremony of NeurotechEU will be held on Wednesday with about a thousand participants.

The Faculty of Dentistry of UD has two 3D printers now. This state-of-the-art technology can be used for making dental impressions, implant templates and "scaffolding".

Compared to last year, the University of Debrecen has gained 100 places in the category of medical and health sciences of the Times Higher Education Ranking. UD has also finished among the best 500 in the subject of Social Sciences, while it has been ranked in the 501-600 range in Life Sciences.

Zoltán Barta, university teacher of the Faculty of Technology and Science at UD has become member of the Academia Europaea (AE). With the renowned behavioural ecologist, UD now has eight members in the organisation.

The Department of Botany at UD has digitalised its four botanical collections, and integrated data into a special database that can be used in distance learning as well. The structure, the morphological section and microscopic photos of various plants are all available in the virtual collection.

The University of Debrecen will receive HUF 6.25 billion from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund in the framework of the Thematic Excellence Programme 2020. Of the HUF 43.9 billion provided to 27 Hungarian science institutions, UD will receive the biggest amount.

With the involvement of physicists working at the UD, researchers have proved several assumptions of Plato, the ancient philosopher. Ferenc Kun and his associates have proved that any fracture or cracking creates cube-shaped objects. The results of their research have been published in PNAS.

The Federation of European Chemical Societies has granted the title “Chemistry Europe Fellow” to Ferenc Joó, professor emeritus of the Faculty of Science and Technology of UD. He received the award from the president of the Hungarian Chemical Society on Friday.

Support-free mesoporous gold nanoparticles have been synthesized through a unique process developed by the researchers of the University of Debrecen. A report on this particular research project was published on the front cover of Nanomaterials, the prestigious journal of material science.

UD has improved its position on the thematic lists of Times Higher Education. In the area of natural sciences the institution moved up on the list compared to the previous year, and it is ranked in the top 800. UD is ranked again in the top 600 this year in the areas of life and medical sciences.

Internationally acknowledged researchers of evolutionary biology and ecology presented the latest results concerning reproduction strategies at an international symposium on Thursday at the University of Debrecen.
