The governing body of the Consortium on Applied Research and Professional Education (CARPE) met in Porto. The University of Debrecen was represented at the event by László Csernoch, Vice-Rector for Research and Zsolt Varga, Scientific Director.

In 2015, the University of Debrecen (DE) joined the international organization CARPE - Consortium for Applied Research and Professional Education, which was established by universities with a strong focus on applied research. And although these institutions are not based in the capital of their respective countries (Hamburg, Utrecht, Glasgow, Porto, Turku, Valencia), they are among the most important higher education institutions in their countries in terms of size and weight.

At the management meeting, László Csernoch, Deputy Rector, gave a presentation on good practices in the organization and operation of doctoral training.

- The future of higher education lies in networking and cooperation between university research groups. Several projects have already been set up under CARPE in cooperation with the Faculties of Humanities, Health Sciences, Economics, Informatics, Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences, Engineering, as well as Science and Technology. These have been implemented in the fields of social inclusion, sustainability, transport development, data management, among others, said László Csernoch.
The meeting also reviewed the tasks of the consortium for the next period, in particular the CARPE conference, also to be held in Porto in May 2025.

In addition to the Steering Committee meeting, a Special Interest Groups (SIG) Forum was held, where the leaders of the disciplinary working groups presented their recent activities and outlined their work plans for the next period.

As a member of the DE delegation, Judit Csoba, Professor of the Institute of Political Science and Sociology at the Department of Political Science and Sociology, presented her results as the leader of the Societal Challenges SIG and Szilvia Veres, Professor of the Department of Food and Agriculture at the Department of Economics, as the co-chair of the Food SIG.
