How could artificial intelligence (AI) prove to be helpful in finance, accounting and business administration? How can the appropriate use of AI affect the economic situation of businesses in our region? These are but two of the questions that the Faculties of Economics and Business of the University of Debrecen and the University of Oradea are exploring in a joint program launched recently. In addition to implementing knowledge transfer, this one-year project also aims to deepen cross-border professional and academic connections.

An international network of research groups led by the University of Debrecen has won funding to develop a new type of drug that is hoped to bring breakthroughs in the chemotherapy treatment of cancer. The NextNano4Cancer project brings together experts from Taiwan, France, Spain, Romania and Hungary.
New solutions for the automated classification of cervical cell images were developed by experts from some of the world's best universities at a scientific competition held in Houston by researchers from the University of Debrecen, Eötvös Loránd University and the University of Göttingen. By the end of what is called Pap-kenet Sejtosztályozási Kihívás [Pap Smear Cell Classification Challenge], as many as ten research teams completed their papers presenting their own solutions.

The Department of Surgery of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre organized a symposium entitled Robotic Surgery for Everyone (Robotsebészet mindenkinek) on the experiences gained since the launch of the Robotic Surgery Centre last April. The University of Debrecen and the company Beijing LINEMILES Technology are to launch a cooperation project in order to promote Sino-Hungarian technological innovation and the development of the start-up and spin-off ecosystem of the University of Debrecen. Novel drug candidate compounds, which are currently unique in the world and likely to be effective in the treatment of malaria, have been produced at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Debrecen. The outstanding achievement of the researchers involved has been recognized by a publication award by Gróf Tisza István Debreceni Egyetemért Alapítvány [Count István Tisza Foundation for the University of Debrecen].
Hosted jointly by the University of Debrecen and EIT Health Innostars, a two-day innovation competition kept our institution vibrant on November 11 and 12. There were almost 150 students from 6 universities in 41 countries entering the 24-hour health-focused competition. The students were supported by renowned international mentors to develop their ideas. At the same time, researchers of our institution had the opportunity to learn more about how to turn an academic idea into a successful business venture in an inspiring conference with the help of the White Unicorn incubator.
