Liu Shaoang, a Sports Manager major at the University of Debrecen, has made history in the 500-meter short track speed skating final event at the Winter Olympic Games held in Beijing. The start-to-finish victory of the 23-year-old athlete meant the first gold medal for Hungary in the history of the Winter Olympic Games.

Ticket sales have begun for FőnixFitt, an event that promotes sports, physical exercises, workout and their role in health preservation. At the event, experts from the UD will offer classes in preventive workout, while the best fitness coaches will be conducting physical exercise sessions.

The UD won the Breeding Award of the National Association of Hungarian Horse Breeders in the XXVIII. Great Plain Livestock and Farmer Days. At the largest animal breeding show in the country, the Gidran mare named DE Schemer Gidran I-54 (Serény) won the breed competition.

Three years from now, the University of Debrecen will host the European University Games in ten sports and thousands of athletes. At the press conference held after the meeting of the organising committee it was revealed that never before had a sport event of this scale been organised in Hungary.

Students from the UD came up with an excellent performance at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The most considerable achievement amongst them belongs to Dóra Bodonyi, a student from the Szolnok Campus of UD, who won a gold medal in the women’s kayak four and a bronze medal in the women’s kayak double.

Regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle can also greatly help to weather a possible disease caused by the coronavirus, the event organised by the Faculty of Economics of the University of Debrecen on the current situation of the fitness sector was told.

The Coordination Institute for Sport Science of UD has joined the European Platform for Sport Innovation (EPSI). The Institute will cooperate with other institutes and businesses in product and methodology development projects.

Complying with the pandemic-related rules, and with the number of visitors optimised, the fitness centre of UD awaits students who need to attend PE classes and those who just want to do some physical exercise. A simple negative air pressure system has also been installed in the facility.

Andreas Zagkiis, general secretary of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has visited the University of Debrecen. He came to see the 3x3 basketball Youth Festival and the World Tour in Debrecen. Mr. Zagkiis was welcomed by rector Zoltán Szilvássy and chancellor Zoltán Bács.

Before the appearance of the corona virus the only exercise that the majority of office workers got was getting to work and back home. Many of those who work from home now get even less exercise. It is mainly these people that the Sports Medicine Clinic of the UD is trying to help.
