Preparations for the expansion of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Debrecen, the renovation of the Chemistry Building and the construction of the new vehicle laboratory are all included in the Hungarian government’s 13 billion forints’ worth of education package.

The University of Debrecen and the Hungarian Research Institute have embarked on research in the fields of ethnography, history, archeogenetics, and religion history. The cooperation agreement was signed by rector Zoltán Szilvássy and the director general.

Outsourced training will be started by the University of Debrecen at the Partium Christian University in mechanical engineering and rural development engineering at a bachelor’s level and specialised studies further training.

The UD has made it to the list of Europe Teaching Rankings 2019 made by Times Higher Education in terms of teaching excellence for the first time ever, coming out immediately as a finalist among Hungarian universities. The ranking examined 258 institutions of higher education of 18 countries.

The Hungarian Government supports the development of the technical education of the University of Debrecen with close to 20 billion forints. According to plans, vehicle engineering training can start by September 2020, with aviation engineering as a major included.

The June 14 graduation ceremony of the Faculty of General Medicine opens the series of summer graduation ceremonies ending on July 6th, where close to 3500 graduates receive their degrees proving completion of training.

The UniBike bike system has been expanded by new stations and 10 new bicycles. From now on, the system will be jointly operated by the University of Debrecen and the Debrecen Reformed Theological University.

Arieh Warshel, a worlwide-renowned biochemist, has been the first to win the University of Debrecen Science Impact Award (uDEsia) of UD. The Nobel Prize laureate researcher received the award from rector Zoltán Szilvássy on 29 March.

In a ranking made by the Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe (EFFE), an organisation regularly ranking European festivals, this year again, after 2017, Campus Festival was listed among the most prestigious festivals.

UD has decided that the University of Debrecen Science Impact Award will go to biochemist Arieh Warshel this year. The Nobel Prize laureate professor, who has been working with researchers at UD for years, will receive the award from rector Zoltán Szilvássy on Friday.

With the contribution of UD and the prestigious Mayo Clinic, Senzime, a Swedish company, has developed a cutting-edge monitor to be used in operating rooms. The device can accurately detect when a patient is able to breath independently again. Its use enhances patient safety significantly.

A ceremonial Senate meeting was held at the University of Debrecen on the occasion of the 171st anniversary of the Revolution and War of Independence of 1848/49. An honorary doctoral degree was awarded at the event to György Matolcsy, governor of the Central Bank of Hungary.

A cooperation agreement including the support of research and development as well as the offering of company-specific modules to UD students was signed on Friday by Rector Zoltán Szilvássy on behalf of the University of Debrecen and Managing Director Lukas Juranek on behalf of Continental.

The series of graduation ceremonies in the winter period has been started by the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and Environmental Management. The ceremonies are recorded by the Multimedia and E-learning Centre.
