The Faculty of General Medicine plans a transnational education programme in Israel. Students participating in the programme perform their studies in Israel and Debrecen according to the curriculum and syllabus of the Debrecen medical training program. After the completion of the training, the diploma is issued by the University of Debrecen. Within the framework of the project, a new university campus is established by the Israeli partners in Eilat who signed a memorandum of understanding recently with the university and faculty leaders of Debrecen.

A bile acid naturally present in the body (ursodeoxycholic acid) may contribute to the growth, spread, and metastasis of ovarian tumors, according to a study by researchers at the University of Debrecen. This finding is significant because previous studies on this substance had only demonstrated anticancer effects. The research highlights that substances produced by gut bacteria can affect different types of tumors in varying ways. The researchers have received the Publication Award from the University of Debrecen and the Count István Tisza Foundation for the University of Debrecen for their paper presenting these findings.

A form of vitamin D significantly reduced a dangerous inflammatory reaction associated with leukemia in laboratory studies, according to research by scientists at the University of Debrecen. This finding could lead to the development of new adjunctive treatments in the long term, but for now, vitamin D is not a substitute for life-saving steroid therapy. The researchers reported their findings in a prestigious international medical-biological journal, and their article has now been recognized with the Publication Award from the University of Debrecen and the Count István Tisza Foundation for the University of Debrecen.

It is once again the University of Debrecen that hosted an international conference between September 6 and 9, dedicated to the precise understanding of inorganic chemical processes that are crucial to modern drug development, industrial catalysis and environmental protection technologies. More than 12,000 freshers are beginning their studies at the University of Debrecen as of this September. The director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen, Zoárd Krasznai, has been appointed as a “proctor,” as a result of which, he will not only be able to perform robot-assisted surgeries in the future but he will also be able to take part in the practical training of specialists both in Hungary and from abroad. This act of prestigious international recognition also serves as confirmation of the high standard of robotic gynecological surgery in Debrecen and of the consistent professional development achieved at the clinic in recent years.

The general properties and the resistance of so-called aerogel materials, which are increasingly used in the construction, automotive, aerospace and oil industries, have been tested at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen. Gábor Sramkó, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology, has received unique international recognition. The Ministry of Education and Science of Mongolia honored him with a state award for his work in developing Mongolian-Hungarian bilateral relations and education in Mongolia. The biologist-researcher, who specializes on the genetic protection of endangered plant and animal species, received the highest professional recognition, awarded to foreigners only in exceptional cases.

From to, to the application of AI, digital twins, and integrated modeling to climate and air quality protection, the Participants of a two-day CITDS Information Technology and Data Science Conference, hosted by the Faculty of Informatics of the University of Debrecen were able to get familiar with numerous IT innovations, including the challenges of autonomous driving, new paradigms of artificial intelligence and the application of AI, digital twins, and integrated modeling of climate and air quality protection. Once again, the central element of the event was the interaction of artificial intelligence and various technologies.

Professor László Nagy will serve as an advisor to the dean at the University of Debrecen’s Faculty of General Medicine, helping to strengthen academic and international relations, with a particular focus on expanding collaborations in North America, developing opportunities for study abroad, and nurturing talent. In addition to his work at the University of Debrecen, László Nagy works at the Florida campus of Johns Hopkins University and is a researcher with extensive domestic and international connections.
