The Károly Ihrig Doctoral School of Management and Business of the University of Debrecen has held an international conference of PhD students, sponsored by the university’s Faculty of Economics and Hungary’s Central Bank. Hungarian and foreign students delivered presentations in ten sessions. Gergely Baksay, Managing Director responsible for economic and budget analysis of the Central Bank gave a plenary presentation. The programme included a round table discussion too.

Greta Grof-Tisza is studying at the University of Debrecen, founded with the support of her great-great grandfather. Although the young student was ware that she was a descendant of the former Prime Minister, Count István Tisza, she only experienced the significance of his legacy once she arrive don the premsises of the university. The late Prime Minister's descendant was received by Rector Zoltán Szilvássy and Chancellor Zoltán Bács in the Main Building.
The leaders of the University of Debrecen and representatives of three faculties discussed the strengthening of existing cooperation and the establishment of further relations in the Central Asian country. The delegation’s talks took place at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation and four universities.
Ádám Lengyel, a Finance and Accounting student at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Debrecen won the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) Workspace Portfolio Management competition. Over two hundred future economists from 16 countries participated in the prestigious competition.
The repaired and renovated DASE running track has been inaugurated on Böszörményi úti campus of the University of Debrecen. The upgraded athletics track will be the university's sports education and sports science training venue. Katinka Battai Sugár, a member of the Hungarian women's fencing team, is now a two-time world champion after winning the gold medal at the World Fencing Championships in Milan on Sunday. 15 PhD students of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Debrecen have attended this year's youth meeting of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The European Youth Event offers thousands of young people from all over the world the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of the EU organization and meet decision-makers.
On May 24-26, 2023, the #CARPE2023 international scientific traveling conference was hosted by Glasgow, Scotland. The University of Debrecen was represented at the conference by a delegation of twenty, led by László Csernoch, vice-rector for science.
Guest students from Germany, Poland, Slovakia and Bulgaria came to the first Erasmus+ BIP (Blended Intensive Program) course of the University of Debrecen. Students of the University of Debrecen (DE) achieved excellent results at the competitions of the 36th National Student Circle Conference (OTDK) held April 3-27. Of the 444 submissions 187 were awarded with a prize or a special award.

There will be approximately forty students and six lecturers from as many as five different universities participating in the first Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Program (BIP) of the University of Debrecen in May. At a round table discussion hosted by the Faculty of Economics of the University of Debrecen for master’s students in sports economics, Yacov Hadas-Handelsman talked about iconic Olympian athletes, the technological achievements and economic implications of sport, as well as the importance of sports diplomacy.
With the graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Medicine coming first, a series of winter commencement ceremonies at the University of Debrecen will begin this weekend.
The University of Debrecen and Sunway University, one of the best private universities in South-East Asia, signed a partnership agreement on Friday. The event was also attended by the ambassador of Malaysia to Hungary. The agreement will strengthen the international presence of UD and facilitate student and teacher mobility.
This weekend the summer series of graduation ceremonies will begin at the University of Debrecen. In the weeks to come, about 4,000 graduates will receive their degrees. The first ceremonies will be held on 17 June, Friday, at 10 am and at 13 am, when students of the Faculty of Economics and Business will graduate at the Cour d’Honneur of the Main Building.
The development of doctoral education and the strengthening of the alumni community were in the focus of the conference of the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Debrecen (GTK) and the Károly Ihrig Doctoral School held at UD on Tuesday. The results of the project that had just finished and had been designed to support talented young researchers were also presented at the event.
On Saturday, a ceremony was held in the Hall of the Main Building of the University of Debrecen, where research degrees and honorary titles were awarded. At the event 96 new doctors representing 5 areas of science received their degrees, and the Habilitation, Professor Emeritus, Civis honoris causa and Doctor honoris causa titles were also awarded.
Liu Shaoang, who studies sports management at the Faculty of Economics and Business of UD, won four gold medals at the short-track speed skating world championship in Montreal. The 24-year-old athlete of Ferencváros won the 500m, the 1500m and the 1000m races, and defended his overall title.
As of 22 September 2021, all employees and students of the University of Debrecen are required to wear a mask that covers their mouths and noses in working hours and in school hours in all rooms used for working and teaching purposes, as well as in public areas and restrooms.
Major topics of the conference at ZAMAT Festival included the most recent culinary trends, gastronomy as a factor in rural development, and the importance of functional foods and catering services. At the event, UD won the first prize for its “debreceni páros” that was developed at the university.
Students from the UD came up with an excellent performance at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The most considerable achievement amongst them belongs to Dóra Bodonyi, a student from the Szolnok Campus of UD, who won a gold medal in the women’s kayak four and a bronze medal in the women’s kayak double.
The Tribunal of Debrecen has registered the Count István Tisza Foundation for the University of Debrecen, which will be responsible for maintaining and operating the University of Debrecen. With this major step, the model change in tertiary education has reached another milestone at UD.
The first meeting of the Advisory Board of the Count István Tisza Foundation for the University of Debrecen was held on 8 July 2021. The event was also attended by the members of the Supervisory Committee, the asset controller, the auditor and the secretary of the Advisory Board.
