Seventy-one would-be physicians took their oaths on Saturday at the graduation ceremony of the University of Debrecen. Two Hungarian and two international students received their diplomas with summa cum laud grades.

This year’s “Debrecen Award for Molecular Medicine” has been granted to Michael N. Hall, a leading researcher of the development and treatment of diseases related to human tumors, metabolism, and immunology.
A professional relationship stretching back over more than twenty five years was the basis for Debrecen University’s award of an honorary doctorate to Péter Kónya, the rector of Prešov University.
Before the dedication of the statue erected to commemorate the statesman instrumental in the foundation of the university and after whom it was originally named, a symposium titled “István Tisza and the University of Debrecen” was held in the Aula.
