An internationally recognized and successful saxophonist from France, Nicolas Arsenijevic, was the guest lecturer at the 16th Debrecen SaxFest. This world-famous performer held master classes for students from the Faculty of Music (ZK) at the University of Debrecen and from other educational institutions, while he also gave a highly successful concert in the venue called Liszt Hall with a saxophone orchestra consisting of ZK students and teachers within the Universitas-Debrecen concert series.

The number of foreign students at the University of Debrecen has continued to grow, with almost 7,800 students studying at UD in the 2025/2026 academic year. Attila Jenei, Director of the Coordinating Center for International Education, advocates the continuous development of the English-language training system to maintain the popularity of the institution in the international student market and to increase competitiveness.

More participants than ever before attended the twenty-fourth Summer Academy masterclasses at the Faculty of Music of the University of Debrecen and Zoltán Kodály World Youth Orchestra also gave a concert of extraordinary quality. According to Judit Váradi, the artistic director of the related series of events, this success is yet another confirmation that the Summer Academy is much needed and its prestige is growing both nationally and internationally.

The 5th Music Pedagogy Conference in Debrecen provided an opportunity for researchers, performers and teachers of music, musicology and music education to exchange ideas, learn about and discuss new research.

One hundred and fifty students and more than thirty master teachers from as many as ten different countries participated in the 23rd International Summer Academy for Young Musicians at the Faculty of Music of the University of Debrecen. Once again, it was Kossuth Prize-winning conductor Tamás Vásáry who conducted the concerts of Kodály Zoltán Ifjúsági Világzenekar [Zoltán Kodály World Youth Orchestra]. Truly unique in Europe, this summer academy offered students a choice of seventeen master courses and several additional professional sessions this year.

Young percussionists who came to the Faculty of Music of the University of Debrecen popularized quality instrumental music with street music and advertised the concerts of the Young Musicians’ International Summer Academy. The carnival-like flashmob held in the city centre was mainly based on improvisation, which allowed the young people to get closer to the audience.

One of the most prominent figures of the jazz and world music scene, Chieli Minucci will soon give a concert with Djabé in the Liszt Hall of the Faculty of Music at the University of Debrecen. The classy guitarist has worked with famous musicians such as Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion and Anastasia.

Twenty masterclasses, twenty-two master teachers and nineteen instrumental sessions await applicants to the International Summer Academy for Young Musicians at the University of Debrecen. In keeping with tradition, the Zoltán Kodály World Youth Orchestra will be formed again this year, led by Tamás Vásáry, pianist and conductor.

The new chamber opera Aldegunda by Péter Zombola, Erkel and Bartók-Pásztory Prize-winning composer and professor at the University of Debrecen's Faculty of Music, premiered at Chicago's Jarvis Opera Hall and Prairie State College, with mezzo -soprano Viktória Viziniin the lead role.

The University of Debrecen students and researchers have provided the highest number of Fulbright scholars in Hungary - this announcement was made at the information session of the International Office of the University of Debrecen, presenting this year's applications of the world's most prestigious scholarship programme. Every year, Fulbright offers 25 Hungarian students, researchers and teachers the opportunity to work as academic researchers and gain professional experience in the United States of America.
