A record number of students attended 4th International Academic Conference at the University of Debrecen. Organized by International Student Union (ISU), the event was attended by over 400 students, who listened to presentations on academic work in the faculties, TDK opportunities and the institution's talent management programs.

TAPI Hungary Industries Kft. has recently supported the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen with two million HUF. The company’s contribution has been used to purchase laboratory equipment.

New academicians were elected and announced at the 199th General Assembly of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA). Five professors of the University of Debrecen (UD) were elected to act as corresponding members, while four of the hitherto corresponding members became full members of the Academy.

In the ImpactLab-Makerspace laboratory of Innovációs Ökoszisztéma Központ [Innovation Ecosystem Center], students can expect to be exposed to 3D technologies week after week this semester as well: in addition to taking the four courses announced, these young people can also start their prototyping journey in specific workshops.

Biotechnology is one of the fastest growing fields of science: pharmaceuticals, medicine, agriculture, food and the environment are all using such techniques. The University of Debrecen launched the biotechnology programme in 1987, and it has been available as a stand-alone BSc course for three years.

The Faculty of Agriculture, Food Science and Environmental Management and the Faculty of Science and Technology will host an international conference this year as part of the Debrecen University Symposium. The University of Debrecen (UD/DE) Scientific Council decided on the winners of the competition at its meeting last week.

The genome libraries of two protected moths, the striped Jersey tiger moth (Euplagia quadripunctaria) and the eastern eggar (Eriogaster catax), are being prepared currently by experts at the University of Debrecen within the framework of an international collaboration. The researchers’ aim is to understand the genetic structure of the moths to help conservation management in species protection.

The University of Debrecen and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research have signed a cooperation agreement. The multidisciplinary international centre for basic research in nuclear physics and related science and technology invites researchers from Debrecen to participate in projects in its seven laboratories.

Saigas and Asian mouflons, i.e. argali sheep, are the focal point of the most recent joint project of Evolutionary Genomics Research Group at the Department of Botany of the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Debrecen and the Institute of Biology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS). The new Hungarian-Mongolian research project is supported by a mobility grant from MTA [HAS: Hungarian Academy of Sciences].

A conference organised by the International Student Union (ISU), an association of foreign students, was held on Thursday at the Learning Center: students enrolled in the English-language programmes of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen (DE TTK) heard presentations on scientific work, the opportunities of TDK (Students’ Scientific Research) and the institution's talent management programmes.
