The current trends and most recent research findings were presented at the international biotechnology symposium held at the DAB Building in Debrecen. One of the key topics was mycotoxin research.

A recent issue of the prestigious international scientific journal, Biological Reviews, contains a paper highlighting a research project conducted at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of the University of Debrecen that explores the reasons for the formation and long-term survival of forest-steppes.

Two Mongolian biologists are conducting evolutionary genetic research at the Faculty of Science and Technology (TTK) of the University of Debrecen through a mobility grant of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. As part of the joint Hungarian-Mongolian research, specialists from Debrecen have also visited Mongolia on a study trip, studying kestrels and peregrine falcons, and have given bioinformatics training to their colleagues in Ulaanbaatar.

Experts discussed issues related to avalanches, their prediction and impact at the Avalanche 2022 international conference, which was held at the University of Debrecen between29 August and 1 September. The interdisciplinary forum was attended by recognised researchers from around the world, including mainly physicists, geologists and biologists, and an internationally renowned brain researcher also gave a presentation at the event.

A conference on the chemistry and biology of carbohydrates has been hosted at the University of Debrecen. About 100 professionals from as many as 15 European countries and the USA, as well as from Hungary, were expected to participate in the three-day English-language conference that was launched on Wednesday in the Learning Center.

Investigations by Plant Cell and Developmental Biology Research Group at the University of Debrecen can also help breed plants that are resistant to drought and severe weather. The latest research findings are also presented in a textbook edited by the Head of the Research Group, Csaba Máthé. A doctoral student from the research group, Csongor Freytag, has won a major professional award for his article in which he presented the results of the investigation.

Researchers of the Faculty of Science and Technology of UD are involved in a space technology project in the framework of the "EU HORIZON" grant. The engineers participating in the project develop and manufacture polymer aerogels for heat insulation. The project will be launched in November with a total budget of EUR 3 million. The Department of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry has conducted research into aerogels for 17 years.

Three famous Hungarian professors of mathematics will be welcomed this week at a five-day mathematics conference at the University of Debrecen. The 120 mathematicians from almost all parts of the world gathered in honor of Kálmán Győry of Debrecen, among others.

The Section of Chemical Sciences of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences named a study prepared by Környezeti Kolloidok Kutatócsoport [Environmental Colloids Research Group] of the Department of Physical Chemistry of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen “Publication of the month” in May 2022. The study, including the research findings on the interaction of carbon aerogels with water, was published in the prestigious international academic journal Carbon.

The Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen has a new dual partner. According to the cooperation agreement signed by UD and MoD Zrínyi Mapping and Communication Servicing Non-profit Ltd., students of the Institute of Earth Sciences can gain an insight into the up-to-date geographical information systems (GIS) used in the field of national defence.

This weekend the summer series of graduation ceremonies will begin at the University of Debrecen. In the weeks to come, about 4,000 graduates will receive their degrees. The first ceremonies will be held on 17 June, Friday, at 10 am and at 13 am, when students of the Faculty of Economics and Business will graduate at the Cour d’Honneur of the Main Building.

On Saturday, a ceremony was held in the Hall of the Main Building of the University of Debrecen, where research degrees and honorary titles were awarded. At the event 96 new doctors representing 5 areas of science received their degrees, and the Habilitation, Professor Emeritus, Civis honoris causa and Doctor honoris causa titles were also awarded.

The University of Debrecen and Teva Pharmaceutical Works have decided to strengthen their well-established partnership. The company will contribute to the infrastructural and equipment development of UD with yet another HUF 1.5 million, further strengthening its decade-long partnership with the university.

Students who are currently enrolled in the English-language programs offered by the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) were given presentations at an event organized by the International Student Union (ISU) on the academic work conducted at the FST, the possibilities for getting involved in TDK (Student Scientific Conference) and on the talent management programs conducted by the university.

A world-class electronic manufacturing technology laboratory has been set up at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen. The laboratory installed at the Department of Electrical Engineering through a cooperation between UD and its partner companies offers an industrial environment where students can become familiar with cutting-edge manufacturing technologies.

The University of Debrecen is among the best 500 universities in the new QS World Rankings in the subject area of sciences. UD has maintained its leading position among Hungarian universities in the field of agricultural sciences (201-250.), and is still in the 351-400 range in the medical sciences ranking of the prestigious London-based organization.

The Ministry of Innovation and Technology and the Association of Hungarian PhD and DLA Candidates agreed on upgrading the support system of young researchers at the University of Debrecen. At the event the infrastructural development projects completed in the last 5 years to the value of HUF 8 billion were presented, and deputy state secretary Balázs Hankó talked about further opportunities.

NI (National Instruments) has provided yet another donation for the engineering, science and technology programs offered at the University of Debrecen. At the official donation ceremony held on Wednesday, the Faculty of Engineering received HUF 4 million worth of technological support, while the share of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the same was HUF 7.4 million.

State-of-the-art facilities and equipment are available for a variety of materials science examinations, structural analysis and the production of samples in Debreceni Egyetem – Atommagkutató Intézet Anyagtudományi Kutatóhálózat [Materials Science Research Network of the Institute for Nuclear Research and the University of Debrecen]. The National Research, Development and Innovation Office has recently awarded the title “Top 50 Kutatási Infrastruktúra” [Top 50 Research Infrastructure] to this unique network of laboratories.

As a participant in a 26-member European consortium, the University of Debrecen has become one of the winners of the HORIZON-INFRA-2021 tender. The NMR Instrument Center of the Institute of Chemistry of the Faculty of Science and Technology is to join an international network formed to solve problems related to material structure, chemistry and biology.

Members of an official delegation from Kazakhstan, representing the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (Almaty, Kazakhstan), have visited the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen in order to learn about research conducted here in the fields of biology, botany, genomics and microbiology.

Several of the research facilities of the University of Debrecen appear on the list of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office, which contains the best 50 Hungarian research laboratories.

The University of Debrecen has been ranked 25th in the Eastern European thematic rankings of the SCImago Institutions Rankings. In the field of energy, UD has outperformed prestigious institutions such as the Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia), the Jagiellonian University (Poland), and Charles University (Czech Republic).

Students of the UD, who took part in the nuclear energy competition, known as Hackatom organised by Rosatom Central-Europe, Paks Nuclear Power Plant Ltd. along with Paks II. Ltd, this spring, had the chance to get acquainted with Unit 4 of Paks Nuclear Power Plant on the spot.
