The partnership between the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen and the Almaty al-Farabi Kazak National University has reached yet another successful stage. For six months, a researcher from one of Kazakhstan's leading higher education institutions prepared DNA extraction and quality control of tissue samples of rare plants collected in Kazakhstan and brought back to the DE laboratory.

The Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen has made a cooperation agreement with EcoPro Global Hungary Zrt. The corporation’s professionals will play an active role in the courses of the faculty and offer career opportunities for graduates. The heads of the faculty and the corporation signed a memorandum of understanding.

An internationally renowned professor is visiting the University of Debrecen. Florian Luca, Professor at the School of Maths, Wits University, Johannesburg, will spend three months as a visiting researcher at the Institute of Mathematics in autumn 2004.

Researchers at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen have developed a prototype of an environment-friendly, high-performance, rechargeable zinc-air battery. This new type of energy store is based on cellulose and uses biodegradable materials as additives and membranes. Its development is in the scale-up phase.

The complex, multi-structured society of wild horses and its changes have been studied using high-resolution aerial imagery by Hungarian researchers, including specialists from the University of Debrecen, in a recently finished multi-year study. The results were recently published in the prestigious international scientific journal Nature Communications.

At the event named Asperfest19, which was connected to ECFG16 (European Conference on Fungal Genetics), Head of Department István Pócsi, upon a request from the scientific community studying Aspergillus fungi, gave a life's work presentation. In this presentation, Professor Pócsi reported on the results of fungal stress biology research carried out at our university, addressing an audience of professionals in Austria at the beginning of March.

Among other projects, the University of Debrecen and Thales Alenia Space, an international company specializing in the space industry, are planning to launch cooperation in the field of space implement manufacturing and space communication. Engineers, biologists, chemists, geographers, mathematicians and physicists have received their degrees at the University of Debrecen. A total of 229 students have graduated from the Faculty.

The University of Debrecen and the company Continental have signed an agreement on joint educational, scientific and research development activities in the field of artificial intelligence-based software development projects and related technologies. The contract was drafted and signed soon after the multinational company had announced the establishment of a research and development center in Debrecen.

Two Mongolian biologists are conducting evolutionary genetic research at the Faculty of Science and Technology (TTK) of the University of Debrecen through a mobility grant of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. As part of the joint Hungarian-Mongolian research, specialists from Debrecen have also visited Mongolia on a study trip, studying kestrels and peregrine falcons, and have given bioinformatics training to their colleagues in Ulaanbaatar.

Experts discussed issues related to avalanches, their prediction and impact at the Avalanche 2022 international conference, which was held at the University of Debrecen between29 August and 1 September. The interdisciplinary forum was attended by recognised researchers from around the world, including mainly physicists, geologists and biologists, and an internationally renowned brain researcher also gave a presentation at the event.

A conference on the chemistry and biology of carbohydrates has been hosted at the University of Debrecen. About 100 professionals from as many as 15 European countries and the USA, as well as from Hungary, were expected to participate in the three-day English-language conference that was launched on Wednesday in the Learning Center.

Investigations by Plant Cell and Developmental Biology Research Group at the University of Debrecen can also help breed plants that are resistant to drought and severe weather. The latest research findings are also presented in a textbook edited by the Head of the Research Group, Csaba Máthé. A doctoral student from the research group, Csongor Freytag, has won a major professional award for his article in which he presented the results of the investigation.

Researchers of the Faculty of Science and Technology of UD are involved in a space technology project in the framework of the "EU HORIZON" grant. The engineers participating in the project develop and manufacture polymer aerogels for heat insulation. The project will be launched in November with a total budget of EUR 3 million. The Department of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry has conducted research into aerogels for 17 years.
