The Da Vinci robot-assisted surgical system has arrived at the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre. The 21st-century, state-of-the-art technology is used primarily in general surgery, as well as surgical procedures in urology, gynaecology and otolaryngology. Thanks to the precise and safe surgical techniques made possible by it, the risk of complications is reduced and recovery times are shortened. The investment of more than one billion Hungarian forints in robotic surgery was officially introduced at the institution on Tuesday.

Upon the invitation of students from the Philippines, the Ambassador of the Southeast Asian island state to Hungary also visited the University of Debrecen on its International Food Day, an international gastronomic festival. A variety of more than a hundred food specialties prepared by as many as 30 teams from 29 different countries/nations were offered to lovers of international flavors at the gastronomic festival of the University of Debrecen called International Food Day, which turned out this year to be even bigger, more exciting and tastier than ever before.
A team of students from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen was among the first three at the 29th National István Ajtonyi Control Engineering Programming Competition. There were teams from Hungarian, Romanian and Serbian technical institutions of higher education taking part in the competition held in Serbia.
Participants in an international training program (GESEA: Gynecological Endoscopic Surgery Education and Assessment), which started on Thursday at the University of Debrecen's Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, can improve their skills in gynecological endoscopic procedures. In the course, which is unique in Hungary, specialists and would-be specialists get a chance to conduct their practices in a dry laboratory that was recently renovated with the support of the Faculty of Medicine out of a budget of around HUF 40 million.
The training session of the first group of students enrolled in the vehicle engineering bachelor's degree (undergraduate) program in the automotive vehicle engineering specialization at the BMW Group Factory Debrecen Training Center has been completed. An adaptation of Tolstoy's novel, Anna Karenina, was staged with great success by the students of the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen (UD) in the Liszt Hall of the Faculty of Music. The performance, which premiered on April 24 was directed by Angelika Molnár, an associate professor of the institute.
The University of Debrecen has signed a cooperation agreement on research and education with the institution of higher education called Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology, India. Owing to this partnership agreement, joint training and student exchanges will be possible in the future in the fields of engineering, information technology and natural sciences.
Birds' brains relative to their body mass have grown larger as a result of evolutionary changes over the past 70 million years, according to research conducted by an international team of scientists who recently published a study of the most comprehensive and detailed family tree of bird species in the journal called Nature. An evolutionary biologist at the University of Debrecen, Tamás Székely, was also involved in the project.
The refurbished premises of the Clinical Physiology Department of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre, Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery Clinic, have been opened. The development has further improved the conditions for teaching and research closely related to clinical patient care at the institution.
