The objective of the FISU Healthy Campus program is to improve the well-being of students and the university community at as many levels as possible. The program, put together by thirty international experts, provides a global network for universities to share knowledge, expertise, best practices and insights. In the latest FISU Healthy Campus ranking of 137 higher education institutions around the world, the University of Debrecen has been granted a gold rating.
“It is a great pleasure for us when such an important international organization recognizes the activities and efforts of the University of Debrecen. More than ten years ago, we started to consciously establish our sports science education and research programs, as well as to support the development of the university sports infrastructure. This international certification is excellent feedback for us, indicating that the institution's sports concept operates effectively. A sports ecosystem has been created in Debrecen that, in addition to sports science, also serves the well-being of the university community in an excellent way,” said Zoltán Bács. The Chancellor of the University of Debrecen added that the aim for our institution would be to reach the highest level of the certification system, the platinum level, which is only one step away.
The director of the Sports Science Coordination Institute of UD also spoke proudly about the gold certification.
“The program covers a specific period of two years, during which the university follows a nine-step set of requirements to reach the final assessment, which leads to a degree and a qualification. The program is made up of a total of 100 detailed criteria elements linked to the seven main pillars. We are delighted to have a proven track record in favor of a happy university citizenship. This program is not just about sports; it has numerous sub-dimensions, including nutrition, mental and social health, sustainability and many more. FISU experts also carry out personal visits to check the accuracy of the data that is uploaded to the relevant platforms. It is always a good feeling when others tell us that we are moving in the right direction. We will continue to do so in the future, as the sports federation's rigorous and detailed accreditation process will be an important element in moving even higher international university rankings,” said László Balogh.
Of the 137 universities in the world that are included in the program, only ten have been awarded the gold rating, including the University of Debrecen. Hungary's only other institution to make the list is Magyar Testnevelési és Sporttudományi Egyetem [Hungarian University of Physical Education and Sport Sciences], which has been awarded a bronze qualification.
