The University of Debrecen and the University of Central Florida signed a framework agreement for joint pharmaceutical, medical and health science research, as well as in the fields of informatics and sports, at the 5th Hungarian Summit, a conference supporting American-Hungarian cooperation, in Debrecen. The leaders of the two institutions plan to further strengthen their cooperation through collaborations between professors, students and researchers.

The University of Debrecen was named University of the Year in the student-friendly category at the first-ever awards gala, where Chancellor Zoltán Bács received a special ministerial prize for his professional work. At the ceremony, the Ministry of Culture and Innovation honored Hungarian universities in as many as eight categories.
“By the cooperation agreement between the University of Debrecen and South Dakota State University, a new era starts in the history of our institution”, said Zoltán Szilvássy, Rector of the University of Debrecen, upon signing the partnership agreement. In addition to the provost of South Dakota State University, the chargé d’affaires of the United States Embassy also attended the signing of the agreement on the establishment of a joint degree program on Thursday.

Three new laboratories with world-class equipment were inaugurated on Monday at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen. Almost 600 million forints from state, university and corporate sources were spent on the modern equipment of the facilities established in the recently inaugurated wing of the Ótemető Street Campus building.

More than 3200 square metres have been added to the University of Debrecen's Faculty of Engineering building complex on the Ótemető Street campus. The new, two-storey facility primarily houses teaching units, laboratories, student community spaces and offices. Balázs Hankó, the Minister of Culture and Innovation, called the University of Debrecen an outstanding example of renewed Hungarian higher education at the inauguration ceremony on Friday.
The new CT scanner, which was inaugurated at the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen, enables faster examinations and more precise diagnoses for patients. This world-class CT scanner will aid the diagnosis and treatment of cardiology patients, and will assist in cardiac and thoracic surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, and oncological surgery as well. The high-tech equipment was acquired through a unique financing arrangement.
Our students majoring in mechanical engineering at the University of Debrecen can now acquire the most up-to-date knowledge in the new Krones Hungary Géptervező Laboratórium [Krones Hungary Machine Design Laboratory], which has been established as a result of the cooperation between the Faculty of Engineering and the company Krones Hungary Kft. This unit, which is equipped with state-of-the-art computers, software and measuring instruments, was inaugurated on Tuesday in the Faculty's Ótemető utca building in the presence of managers both from the university and the company.
Aurelia Skipwith Giacometto, Secretary of the Environment in Louisiana, was presented with the title of Honorary Citizen by the University of Debrecen at a ceremonial Senate meeting held to commemorate the 106th anniversary of the death of Count István Tisza. Appointments and awards were presented at the event, which was attended by descendants of the former Prime Minister.
