Ministry agreement on research and development

The Ministry of Technology and Industry is strengthening its cooperation with the University of Debrecen in areas of strategic importance for the country. The focus of the long-term agreement signed on Thursday is the health industry, the vehicle and energy industries.

- The existing and successful collaborations between the University of Debrecen and the Ministry contribute to the strategic goal of Hungary to become increasingly self-sufficient in several key areas. This goal is greatly helped by the fact that, in addition to the faculties, various sectoral cabinets also operate at our university, defining innovation activities, Rector Zoltán Szilvássy explained at the signing of the long-term agreement on July 7 at the University of Debrecen.
The rector added: in addition to research and development projects, the university already has products of its own.

- Some programs have reached a stage where they no longer primarily face research risks, but industrial development tasks. All this embedded in a well-structured system of international relations, which is also in line with industry, regional politics and the ministry. This type of vertically organized industrial cooperation system is an effective tool for economic development.

In his welcome speech, Chancellor Zoltán Bács underlined the effective joint work carried out in recent years.
- Minister Palkovics and we, the university, have eight years of close and successful cooperation behind us, and today we are signing an agreement to continue this, which focuses primarily on the fields of energy, health and the vehicle industry. This new milestone is a clear indication of the fact that, in addition to education, research and patient care, Debrecen is now a determining factor in innovation and industry.

The aim of the Ministry of Technology and Industry is for Hungary to play a leading role at a European and regional level in industries and technologies with high added value that are in line with global trends. To this end, TIM would like to strengthen its relationship with Hungarian higher education institutions, including the University of Debrecen. The development ideas affect, among other things, the health industry, the pharmaceutical industry, sports science, certified food development and production), the vehicle industry (alternative drives, self-driving vehicles, railway solutions), as well as the carbon neutrality of industries and technologies, horizontal related informatics and electronic communication.

- At the same time, the most pressing challenges of the period ahead are grouped around energy and resources. Our energy system is being completely transformed, the starting point of which is to shift from gas-based solutions to electricity-based ones. It is important to further strengthen our energy independence and make the energy system green and climate-friendly. And all of this is related to the availability of energy - Minister László Palkovics said, highlighting the details of the areas of cooperation. He also spoke about the fact that, with the industrial development, vehicle industry and the university-owned vaccine factory in Debrecen programs  can be tested that are exemplary for the country.

The head of the ministry explained: negotiations with Brussels have already begun on the plan developed for the development of the domestic energy system.  According to the minister, the University of Debrecen can efficiently and fruitfully participate in is with its innovation and research activities, while the investments in the city  provide opportunities to test new energy solutions.
