Levente Tóth, final-year student of the Faculty of Music of the University of Debrecen has achieved an outstanding result at an international online percussion competition. He has won the 21st Century Talents Percussion Competition, based in Ottawa.

“The state has not released the hands of the universities, and in fact it provides more resources than ever before,” emphasized László Palkovics, Minister of Innovation and Technology, at the opening ceremony of the UD in the Nagyerdei Stadium. Approximately 10000 freshers are starting the new year.

The University of Debrecen appears among the best 1,000 higher education institutions of the world in the latest Times Higher Education rankings. Finishing 3rd among the 11 Hungarian universities, UD has achieved its highest score in the area of teaching (ranked 351 globally).

The leaders of the University of Debrecen met with the delegation of three higher education institutions in Uzbekistan to discuss the experiences of pharmaceutical and agricultural education in Debrecen and the establishment of a Hungarian-Uzbek joint degree programme in these fields.

Among universities in Hungary, UD has been one of the most popular choices of students taking supplementary entrance examinations. A total of more than nine hundred applications have been received for admission to as many as 86 programs.

Students from the UD came up with an excellent performance at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The most considerable achievement amongst them belongs to Dóra Bodonyi, a student from the Szolnok Campus of UD, who won a gold medal in the women’s kayak four and a bronze medal in the women’s kayak double.

Uzbekistan is counting on the knowledge base of the University of Debrecen in the fields of agriculture and water management, medicine and technical sciences. The details were discussed by Endre Harsányi, Vice-Rector for Agricultural Innovation and Training Development.

After the general application procedure, as many as 6958 first-year students will be able to start their university studies in the Hungarian-language programs of the UD as of September 2021.

Researchers from the Agricultural Genomics and Biotechnology Center of the University of Debrecen and the AKIT Research Institute in Nyíregyháza have developed a virus removal procedure that is three times more effective than the one before.

This was the third, and final closing ceremony held by the University of Debrecen in the Nagyerdei Stadium. Saturday saw the farewells of graduates of the Faculty of Health, Dentistry, Child Education and Special Education, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Engineering and Public Health.

This year, Debrecen will become the festival capital of the country, as Campus Festival, the first and one of the largest festivals of the summer will be held here. The UD also offers a lot of interesting programs in the several-hundred square meter large Egyetem Tér, the main venue of the event.

A package of altogether 33 various events are going to be offered to those interested in visiting the Debrecen festival site of Campus Fesztivál Egyetem Tér [University Square, Campus Festival], which “returns” after skipping last year’s occasion.

Due to the high number of graduating students and the restrictions introduced during the pandemic situation, the UD organized its closing ceremony at the Nagyerdei Stadium, like last year. On Saturday, students of four faculties celebrated the end of their university studies.

Six faculties of UD have requested the prolongation of the current academic year. This opportunity was opted for mostly in the programs of medicine and health sciences and technology and natural sciences. The examination period are planned almost everywhere to be conducted in-person.

On Thursday, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Hungary consulted the leadership of the UD on the issues of educational and research cooperation projects between our university and institutions of higher education in Kazakhstan as well as increasing the number of Kazakh students enrolled at UD.

Purchase of equipment, digitization, student-friendly investments, curriculum development – these are the elements, among other things, of the project that will be implemented by the University and National Library of the University of Debrecen using a HUF 305.5-million grant.

Following a pilot phase, the website demedia.hu, launched at the beginning of 2021 by the radio station of the UD, FM90 Campus Rádió, is now available for the public in a “normal operation mode.” A significant portion of the current webpage content is with a focus on the university.

On April 22, an conference was organised by the Institute of Germanic Studies of the Faculty of Arts of the UD and the German Cultural Forum in Debrecen. The online event focused on the challenges posed by the pandemic that translators and teachers involved in translation training have faced.

Apart from the Hungarian students, a number of international students of Faculty of Engineering at the UD (DE MK) also participated in the competition Engineering Science Section of National Scientific Student Circle Conference (OTDK).

Having moved a hundred and seventy notches, the University of Debrecen is now ranked among the best 400 institutions of higher education in the world according to the most recently published rankings issued by Round University Ranking (RUR).

The University of Debrecen is currently placed among the top 100 in the Good Health and Wellbeing as well as in the Life Below Water whereas as a Hungarian university, it is ranked 101-200 in the Quality Education category on the most recent list of Impact Ranking, Times Higher Education (THE).

As a results of the gradual relaxation of covid protection measures DEENK (University and National Library of the University of Debrecen) provides the opportunity to borrow books again in a limited way from 8 April again in all its units.
